Why is my bank keeping track of my "utility usage".

I do all my banking with my credit union. I happened to notice this box on their web page. It's filled with facts about my life. Yeah, there's my balance and stuff, but did you know that in April, there was a 21% increase in my utilities bills? And a 13% rise in 'services'. Not to mention the there was a 54% increase in 'shopping'. Also, I dealt with 4 new merchants, whom I never did business before for $301.54.
hey, they are supposed to pay checks and things. It's kind of freaky that my bank is keeping tabs on increases in my utility bills. ??????????

That’s too much. I’d complain, not that it would do me much good. Maybe there’re people who want it and need it.

My CC alerts any action. At the same time it tells me when it thinks I’m above or below average. All I care about is if the transaction was legit.

From what you described it looks like targeted advertising being displayed on the bank's webpage, a result of the webpage "seeing" your browsing history in your computer web browser. Depending on which browser you're using(Firefox, Chrome etc) you can turn off that feature, or use a ad blocker Add-on with your browser.

Nobody at your credit union is "keeping tabs" on you....
