Why life’s basic skills are dying

The computers went down at our local doctors' practice and they couldn't print out prescriptions all morning, had to post them to people when the computers came back up. When I asked why they didn't just go back to writing them by hand my doctor said they no longer have prescription pads, and he doubted the chemist would even accept them if they did.

Intersting replies to original post " Why life`s basic skills are dying" but amazes me how so often (Not only this one) go completely off subject ,and often a whole new agenda becomes apparent, just wondering if people are aware they do this?

I don't know what you mean OP  !

Here are some more Beverly sisters song lyrics to make the world a better place, "Little things mean a lot"
Lyrics
Blow me a kiss from across the room
Say I look nice when I'm not
Touch my hair as you pass my chair
Little things mean a lot…
Blow me a kiss from across the room
Say I look nice when I'm not
Touch my hair as you pass my chair
Little things mean a lot

Give me your arm as we cross the street
Call me at six on the dot
A line a day when you're far away
Little things mean a lot

Don't have to buy me diamonds and pearls
Champagne, sables and such
I never cared much for diamonds and pearls
But honestly honey, they just cost money

Give me your hand when I've lost the way
Give me your shoulder to cry on
Whether the day is bright or gray give me your heart to rely on
Send me the warmth of a secret smile
To show me you haven't forgot

Now and forever , that always and ever
Little things mean a lot
Blow me a kiss from across the room
Say I look nice when I'm not
Touch my hair as you pass my chair
Little things mean a lot

Give me your arm as we cross the street
Call me at six on the dot
A line a day when you're far away
Little things mean a lot

Don't have to buy me diamonds and pearls

I notice that the most interesting conversations (and what are these but conversations?) meander a bit. In face-to-face conversations with friends it's relatively rare to encounter a topic police officer. At meetings with specific agenda items, yes, in conversations, not so much. At least not in my social circles.

In any event, how much can one beat the dead horse of the younger generation's (apparent) incompetence and certain pathway to hell in a hand basket?

Very nice, GG.
I need to write a wedding ceremony for a friend (this will be my fifth time doing that) and I've been looking for a fresh theme. Your posting struck a chord and has inspired me, for what is marriage - and life, for that matter - if not an aggregate of moments, of little things? Thank you for being my muse!

After that quick side trip I respectfully return this thread back to its OP's topic. Please continue complaining about the Millennials to your heart's content.

That song was our favorite. Kitty Kallen (who died recently) hit the record charts with that tune in, I believe, 1954.

Our kids, back on our 50th wedding anniversary presented us with a CD of our lives using photos from family albums starting with our individual households through our dating and marriage and the years after. Kallen's version of "Little Things Mean a Lot" played as a background tune throughout the CD. Good memories.

A great year

The year I was born no less, so obviously a great year :D

Hope your wedding planning goes well (tell them of the dangers of divorce coming along after of course :().

Now seriously back on topic please

OK, I'll return.

Can you name any basic skills, now lost (or nearly), that would truly enhance our lives in the modern world? Something that you think is a real, serious loss to mankind, because nobody knows how to do it
any more?

Now you've set me a task there haven't you, and I will have a go, but before I do I will give you a "lawyers" answer to your question, and that is "it would be extraordinary wouldn't it, there were no kills now being lost, that no younger person around today might ever need sometime in the future" (lost in the outback of Australia, if you've watched those survival shows closely you will at least have some idea where to start making a fire that you could use to cook your food, which you'd managed to catch somehow, and alert searching plane to look for the smoke trail - will that do for you  ?)?

My list:

1). The ability to work through troubles in your relationships rather than seek out a divorce lawyer, as our parent's generation had to do (please note "everyone" :D).

2). Respect for authority rather than those with sheer wealth.

3). Knowing the value of things rather than just the price of everything.

4). Not coverting your neighbours oxen, or his wife, or his husband.

5). How to work out you're being mislead or lied to.

Short list I know, but there have been other example already given in this thread if you wish to take the trouble to look, and I seem to remember someone commenting upon how nice it is to receive a handwritten letter from someone with beautiful handwriting, and the ability to charm you with their wit and understanding (my mum certainly had the handwriting, and maybe sometimes the clever wit, and here younger sister definitely had both :)).

Over to the rest of the "Tag team" ready and waiting to step in to call into question just a wee little bit that everything being done in the name of progress is any such thing.
