The older I got the more I realized this, but this excellent video shows how no one really cares if we are improperly dressed, have a bad hair day, don't conform to the norms, etc.

I wish I'd realized this when I was in my 20's/30's/40's.

Same here. I went through my life up to late 30's, early 40's thinking that everyone was watching and judging me.
When I came to realise that I was virtually invisible in society then my insecurities fell away and I became free of all that I believed to be true.

Yeah, when I was in my teens, and twenties, I was definitely part of the herd. That was in the 1970s. I wouldn't go out unless I had w-i-d-e bellbottoms , six inch platform shoes, madras shirt, zodiac (Taurus) neck pendent, wide belt, in a cloud of patchouli, and danced like Travolta. Yesterday, I went to buy a new car, I had on old, old sneaks, a 30 year old shirt, black pants and red sweater, and I was unshaven. And I bought the car.

We must be similar in age because I can definitely relate and love your style from the 70's. I was also in bellbottoms, platform shoes and either Augie or Nik-Nik shirts with a couple of buttons open. Remember them? I had a chain with an Italian horn, even though I'm not Italian. Now I go everywhere in workout clothes or a track suit.
