Why Post Current News Items?

Why do some folks post current news and not comment? I don't want to read current news on Senior Forums that I have already read or seen on regular news sources. Discussing the news piece would be fine, but just posting current news doesn't cut it.

I rather appreciate news links sometimes. I don't have any gadgets that present news and seldom look at the TV. Unless I hear something on the car radio or someone mentioning it I might go the whole day none the wiser. Like the Paris attacks, I just happened to flip on the radio. Usually if one person is giving an announcement and not a newscaster it's something serious.

But I flip into here through the day. If I see a thread "Paris is Under Siege" and a link...then I feel like thank you for telling me to turn on the news.

I agree Fur, sometimes a post here is the first I hear of a big news story, so I like the heads up, can research further if I'm interested....or, just keep reading the thread as it updates.

I don't click on any of the links posted due to my internet data restriction. I don't mind others posting news links and not commenting on them though. I just ignore anything I don't want to comment on.

Sometimes I post a question about "whatever" but I don't comment because I don't have time right than and just want to put a bit of new life in the forum. :) Also I'm afraid I'll forget the idea if I wait till I have more time.

"I might go the whole day none the wiser. "

So do I. Can't it affects my quality of life much.

"I don't have any gadgets that present news "

As you post here I assume you have a computer. There are several hundred internet radio dedicated news channels just a mouse click away.

I might post a local news story which I think may be of interest to a wider audience, but I only post a major news story if I have something to say.

When posting a link, it would be great if you can write a short summary, what it's about, your thoughts, etc. If you don't want to write anything, quoting one or two paragraphs is also OK.

When I see a new thread with nothing but a link, I always add something.

Not for you maybe, but it doesn't bother me!

I agree Matrix, I never click on a link unless I know a little about the content in the first place ...and also not all links are safe...so if I'm in doubt I just paste the url into my browser..

I tend to introduce a current news item with a few words and unless it is way too long I copy it, with the link at the bottom for verification. This is time consuming because I have to remove side links and other irrelevant bits but I do it because some members don't have the data allowance to spare.

I sometimes refrain from commenting too early because I don't want to turn off posters who may disagree but I come back later with my viewpoint.

I do find it interesting to read news articles that other people post but I appreciate some sort of introduction to draw my interest.

The Title of the Thread is most important to me..

Also some members turn a news thread in politics..00000060.gif
