The Army sent me right to Fort Dix, NJ for 8 weeks of basic training. Then on to Aberdeen, MD for 12 weeks of heavy equipment repair. We studied and learned all about electrical and fuel parts, which was a joke because all we did when I got to my assignment was pull and replace. Items were sent out to repair.
Then after Aberdeen, they flew me to Fort Ord and then down to Camp Roberts, CA when I finished out my tour.
They offered me $500 to reup and I said no thanks. Got discharged Sept 3, 1958. Loaded up my 50Chevy wagon, brand new baby, dog, wife and me and headed for Route 66 and home. Good memories for me.
