Why wasn't Luke ever called Prince Luke?

I'm sure we all saw Star Wars. Princess Leia's twin brother was Luke. We agree on that. So why wasn't Luke ever called Prince Luke? If Leia was a Princess, Luke ought to be a Prince.
I thought of that last night, while going to sleep. It was a "Yeah, how come?" moment.

Well, their mother died and they were adopted by different families. Leia won the fate lottery and was adopted by a high-ranking family, which made her a princess. Luke got sent to the farm where he didn't even get to be Cool Hand Luke, just Poor Hand Luke.

Also, Stars Wars events took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away where different rules applied. For example, the mother of the twins, Queen Amadala, was an elected queen not an heredity one.

...and a 14-year-old Queen at that. I can't remember how long her "term" was but she only got to serve one. I loved her costumes.
