Why wouldn't the nurse reveal my blood pressure

15-20 years ago, my then primary care doctor started telling me that my bp was rather high and encouraging me to start taking bp medication. The numbers he gave me were just marginally high so I kept refusing the meds.

Then, after a couple of years of this, my bp was suddenly normal. It turned out that they discovered that the nurse who had been taking my blood pressure (manual sphygmomanometer) had a hearing loss. Oops!

I have a BP cuff (Omron) here at home and check it once a week. I don’t have any issues with my BP, but I do it just for preventative purposes. I also have an oximeter that I bought from Amazon for around $15.

When I go to the Doc’s office, the nurse gives it up as soon as the machine is done running. Same for the Oximeter.

That’s odd, the tech that performs the test at the retina surgeon’s office always tells me my eye pressure when she completes the test.

The techs at my annual checkup with the optometrist tell me. They always seem surprised that I’m asking. I wish there was a device so I could do it myself.

Yes. It was normal.

Get a new cuff get an oxygen finger thingy, stop at any pharmacy including WalMart.

If it's really high, they will tell you. Usually the nurse/doctor will check your blood pressure at least twice during your appointment. Just to see if it changed much.

I just hate my doctor taking my blood pressure because he always uses the small arm band and as I have large arms the pressure is so bad I am almost at yelling point and the result is my blood pressure it abnormal. I always ask if that is the small armband, and he just smiles. In future I'm taking my blood pressure and record it on my phone. They say it's the "White Coat Syndrome" I call it "Bad Manners".

I have always found the blood pressure cuff extremely painful; whether or not my arms were small or large on my perpetual yoyo. One time the nurse started to panic, turned white and said "I can't hear you at all!" Did she think I was dead?

It really makes me mad when they scoff and say things like, "Oh this doesn't hurt." I've always had dentists and doctors comment on what a high pain threshold I have. I am not a whiner. That cuff has made me scream.

It's not always true for me, but sometimes YEOO-OUCH! I don't understand why that is.
