Why You Shouldn’t Drink Coffee on an Empty Stomach, According to a Nutritionist

Here’s how a typical morning for me used to go: Wake up, hit snooze several times, drag myself to the kitchen to make coffee, then wait for the sweet, sweet caffeine to hit my veins. I’m basically a walking but first, coffee cliché. But I mean, that phrase is all over T-shirts/mugs/café letter boards for a reason, right? So when I described my daily routine during a recent nutrition consult with Carlyn Rosenblum, MS, RD, I wasn’t expecting her first criticism to be about that particular habit. Here’s what she had to say about drinking coffee on an empty stomach before breakfast.

I love my coffee in the morning....So poo to her....(But most of the time, I'll eat a cookie with my coffee....I usually drink 3 cups a day....

Is she referring to coffee without milk? I always take mine with milk.
Don't worry there will be a study out next week that says Coffee on an empty stomach will aid in helping you live longer.
I watch the changes in the benefits or not of statins - it seems it's a different report every couple of months.

The "morning coffee" is a staple at our house. Given all the warnings about what is "bad" for our health, it's a wonder we're still alive.
