WiFi went out yesterday

TV wasn't affected, but I didn't have internet or phone starting around 2:30 pm. I turned the computer off, but noticed around 6 pm the servise was back, but during the night it went out again. I waited until 8 am this morning and it was still out. I can't use the phone if the wi-fi is down, so can't call anyone. In desperation, I cut the power to the devices and re-booted. It seems OK now, but I'm wondering why the wi-fi keeps dropping.

Happens here sometimes too..doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it... but Deb, you know what we're all going to be repeating to you AD nauseum don't you ? ...get a cell phone.. this is exactly why you need one when you think you don't...

We have high-speed (350Mbs) fiber optic internet here but it's not entirely reliable. At least monthly I have to turn on the Wifi hotspot on my mobile phone. It's a fantastic back-up and it gives me about a 35-40 Mbs connection. I've never tried it for streaming TV but I'm told that 25Mbs is adequate to stream HD TV. I'll have to try it one day. I've delayed doing so since it's such a PITA to assign the new link and password to the TV and then have to change it back when the original system comes back on.

My Wi-Fi used to go out regularly. They'd send a guy out to track down the break. He finally told me the system is old and every time he'd offer to upgrade, they'd tell him no just restore her connection. He said they are phasing out copper wire and are getting ready to connect with fiber optic. That was years ago. Right now I can see the new cable looped up and unused hanging near the pole out there. Oh they're ready all right. Verizon just doesn't want to give up the old way yet. Maybe at the end of the decade, or after.
