I ask Wikipedia what the USA' s populations was, and in 2012 it said there were 313.91 million people . Now I just heard that Obamacare has signed up 7 million people to it's insurance.
What am I missing here, that doesn't seem like a good percentage.
There has to be something I'm not getting?
Was that just the figure for the last day or what?
If it is the total, then I'm not impressed.
I need someone with good stats.
Phil, Falcon, rt3, Sea, HFL, you guys are good at this.
Where did I go wrong? :star:

Nope, that's all according to my google search Ina, 7.1 Million are signed up, total. Unless I missed something?? One article did say some are choosing not to sign up. That's all I know. Others will know more I'm sure;)

Since it is free for anyone who is in prison, or who is an illegal, I would guess that many of the people who are signing up might be people who are eligible for free coverage. Also, seniors who have medicare/medicaid are being switched over to Obamacare, according to what I have read. Since I only receive a little over $400 a month for my Social Security; I am getting medicaid, and apparently when I do the yearly required documentation; then this year I will be counted as a new signee for Obamacare. I have no idea what changes it will make to my coverage, but as long as they pay for my heart meds, that is what is the most important part for me. I usually don't go to the doctor for anything else.

I would not be surprised to see the whole thing collapse, and we end up with some kind of universal coverage, similar to what they have in many other countries. A lot of people have lost the coverage that they had before, and not been able to get signed up for new coverage, according to what they are reporting in the news.

the numbers are only reflective of the younger, uninsured group, ages approx. 20-30. also the figure does not represent those sign ups who have actually paid the premiums. some estimates put that at about 1/2, so technically only 1/2 of this figure signed up

For the last two years I have been going to a non federally sponsored neighborhood health clinic. My cost is 40% of their cost. It has been lifesaver for me. Michael has the VA, and that covers all with his Medicare. I suppose to receive Medicare next Janurary.

My policy with Kaiser was cancelled for being non-compliant with the new Health Care Act, so I signed up with the same company for a substantial tax credit with the exchange. No complaints from me, universal would be better and simpler, IMO.

I understand around 7 million signed up with the exchange, around 9 million signed up off the exchange with their companies that had compliant plans, almost 5 million qualified for Medicare on the exchange, almost 2 million were already on Medicare.

Although you're looking at the entire population, I think that one person signing up for a family of 8, would just be logged in as one applicant. The whole population number does not mean each and every person would be signing up for health coverage, as some of them are only babies.

I know some people are going to believe what they WANT to regardless of the facts on anything that concerns President Obama or the ACA, but the fear and smear and just plain untruths are getting a little deep.

Every time I hear about the American health and social care system I thank my lucky stars I live in the UK.

I agree with Jackie. Every since he won the election(s) it's been sour grapes by the losing party. They've been sulking and shooting down anything and everything he's tried to do. Perhaps instead of wasting all that time and energy fighting these things, they should spend a bit of their time coming up with an alternative plan that would work. Maybe if they stopped acting like spoiled children in Washington, they'd win some elections too.

It's better than it was Justme, and any extensive plan like this will have some bumps along the way. They do admit that the website at first was terrible, and there's no excuse for that...but at least they admit fault. I'm lucky in my state that we had our own website, so it was much easier for me to enroll in a plan with the exchange. We should follow the lead of other countries, and just go to the simple universal health care system.

Justme, do you pay a certain amount yearly for your universal health-care, or are you taxed for it? Come to think of it, I don't even know if you have to pay taxes. I was so busy raising my family that thinking outside of our own small world just didn't have a lot interest for me, except for historical novels. I welcome all of your answers.

Got to remember something, the White House says 7 million signed up and the actual figure will never be know if the Obama administration has its way.

Healthcare provided by our National Health Service is paid for by contributions from our working population. Everyone is entitled to free healthcare at point of need, even if they have never paid in for it. Similarly the benefits system is given to those in need paid for by the tax payers.
