Will Knit Socks for Lobster

I know what a Lobster is..I live on an Island we are surrounded by fish and fisherman.... I dont understand why anyone would be knitting socks for a Lobster..I thought it was the name of a society or something
I figured she was getting paid in lobsters, which is very fine with me.

I thought you should be familiar with it. But when you first asked it wasn't clear what you didn't understand. I also figured that people would enjoy the video.

Back on topic of knitting socks…….yes, I really enjoy knitting socks. I never thought about asking for lobster (or any other gift ) for knitting socks, I just enjoy making them for my family, along with slippers.
My English mother-in-law taught me how to knit back when I was first married (in the early 60’s), and once I learned that, she showed me how to use 4 needles and make socks. It is mostly the only thing I make except for the little throw rugs that I crochet with yarn and plastic grocery bags.

I live on a Northern European Island..where the waters arre cold... where are people getting the idea that I wouldn't know about Lobsters?

Lobster fishing is a big thing here as it is in all of European oceans
Well, since you are not an American, I will clue you in.

Lobsters get cold feet. Ergo, they need socks (actually footed leggings is what they prefer us to call these).

The nervous system has to be developed enough for the living being to be able to feel pain.
Okay, but remember people sometimes make convenient decisions about which they know nothing.
As subjective as pain is, I don't see how we can know for sure.
My son was circumcised immediately after birth. He screamed piteously. The doctor said my son couldn't feel it. I called him a damn fool.

I read an article in Good Housekeeping magazine when I was quite young. It was about how babies were operated on without anesthesia because it was thought that fetuses and newborns did not feel pain. This did not change until 1987. I was horrified. I can't find that article online, but I did find this.

Doctors Started Anesthetizing Babies More Recently Than You Might Think

On December 17, 1987 there was an opinion piece in the New York Times, but I can't access it since I am not a subscriber. It is called

Why Infant Surgery Without Anesthesia Went Unchallenged

I was wondering why you wouldn't know a lobster. It was blowing my mind. But even more mind blowing was the idea that you thought someone was knitting something for lobsters to wear. LOL
On the contrary ..I didn't think that at all... that's the whole point..I asked if LOBSTER was a name for some instutution or other, that she might be knitting for, knowing no one in their right mind would be knitting for a shellfish...... but no she said she knitting for lobster legs

I just started making a pair of socks for my grandson, and realized that I didn’t have quite enough of the yarn that I was using to finish both socks; so I ordered another skein of the same color.
I am not happy !
The color is Starburst, the same on both, but the first one was a vibrant color, and the new skein is a softer, almost muted shades of the same colors.
What to do ?
I don’t want to take the whole sock apart and start over, and I sure didn’t want them to be different colors, either. Finally, I decided that the top part of both socks will be the vibrant shades and the foot of the socks will be the softer shades of the same colors. What would you have done with a situation like this, @dusty ?

I don't know how far you have gotten of the socks but in similat circumstances I have the the heels and toes different colors than the cuff and foot. Made my son a pair of grey and red ones with the red stripes on the leg (cuff) and the heel and toes red. I think you have done the best you could do.

What was the brand and weight of the yarn? Got a picture?? That yarn sounds familiar.

It is just the regular Red Heart Super Saver 4-ply yarn , like I always use, Dusty. Red heart just muted the colors, and does not have the bright ones on Amazon or Walmart either one now.
I guess I had the first skein longer than I realized .
Here is a picture of the two. They are very similar, just the one is softer shades of the same colors.
I usually make the tops, heels and toes different shades, too, but was down to starting the heel, and just decided that it made sense to order a whole new skein since I had a Walmart grocery order going in anyway, and then I would be sure to have enough.
It is a little more noticable when I look at it than it appears in the picture, but still really close. You can see the new yarn has kind of a ”fuzzy” look.

Yeah, I see the texture and color difference. I think I wil work out, tho. So you knit from toe up or top down? I like top down. I am starting on the top of the second gree sock now and then will dip into hand spun.

I like your colors, though and am tempted...

I have only ever knitted socks from the top down. I don’t remember ever seeing a pattern for socks made from the toe up. I enjoy working with different colors, and it makes the socks more unique, and keeps me from getting bored with knitting the same colors for the whole time.
Just as an aside, I think you should have left the word “lobster” out of the title, and maybe put the thread in the “hobbies” section. It has sure gone WAY off topic; but I am glad you started the thread anyway, Dusty.
