Window gnats, fungus gnats, and flies. Oh my.

I've tried every hack on the internet and I can not get rid of these things.

I've tried all the internet hacks. I've put out trays of cinnamon, bowls of vinegar and Dawn, poured bleach down every drain, put the bananas in the refrigerator and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned.

There's one gnat who seems to live on my computer screen and dive bombs my face all the time I sit here. He's been in my eyes and up my nose and I'm now wearing a mask.

I keep asking, "Isn't it time for you to die?" but apparently they can live for 50 days!

I hate bugs Della..seriously so I feel for you. I hate those tiny gnats , where the hell do they come from.? I keep my windows open all day so it's no surprise I might get a few insects in.. but the UK is't an insect infected country on the whole... and unless someone's house is flthy there's not gonna be too many bugs around... but those gnats..

I can be sitting here in the office room as I am now ..with the window open just 3 feet from my desk.. and nothing is coming in...as soon as I shut the window, and put lights on in the evning.. there's going to be ONE gant that dive bombs as you say..into the screen into my face..into my tea cup...arrgggh!!

Do you have plants in your home? Did you add soil or repot? Some brands of soil have gnat eggs in them.
when wet, they hatch. In any event, I was successful using yellow sticky traps several times.
They seem to be attracted to the color, and then they don't fly again. The best part is you can see the progress. Here is an amazon link, but I'm sure you can find them locally.
I scotch-taped them to different areas in my home. Worked very well.

I had a similar situation with gnats that came from a certain plant. As soon as I got rid of the plant, the gnats practically went away. I also use the yellow sticky traps. I understand the gnats are attracted to light, hence why they go to windows, and computer screens. I also believe they are attracted to the carbon dioxide coming from our noses. Finally, they are attracted to standing water.

poured bleach down every drain
Just a few thoughts on this (I hate those things!). Did you do the clothes washer drain, which sometimes doesn't have a U-trap. Can they get into an attic and sneak in through bathroom/kitchen vents (like the one over the stove)?

Two people I know had this problem. One discovered it was a plant in the house, the other (who lived in an RV) found it was in his waste water system. I hope you find the source.

Right on about house plants. I bought a house plant at Lowes, which has an outside garden section. Then I had gnats everywhere. I found out gnats live and thrive in moist soil, and yup there were gnats in the plant soil. Tossed the plant, but adult gnats can reproduce in any moist environment- like a bathtub drain. So I still had them. I got Zevo gnat traps, which helped to wipe 'em out.

@Della awww Della those bugs are just fattening up and multiplying so the migrating birds and insects have snacks on their journey through.
Do your part now... feed a beetle. :ROFLMAO:
Not making light of your frustration, I totally understand. I know this heat wave is also helping to increase the egg hatching it seems and with lack of standing water outside, these bugs are trying desperately to find a water source. As some have mentioned in this thread about drains and pipes. I close the stoppers in my sinks so the drain is not open until I take the stopper out as well. Bathroom drains especially since they are not used as much as a kitchen sink may be. I hope you find a solution for your home.

Yep, I did the same at Walmart. But the real infestation came when I bought a bag of potting soil online, and repotted a couple of plants that grew too big. Like @Della I tried everything to no avail. Then I came across the sticky traps. Zevo was not around back then, but I will pick up a couple to have handy if the need arises.

Are you using the apple cider vinegar?
