Windows 12 Don`t think so!

After months of speculation about an impending Windows 12, the rumor mill has done a complete backflip and is now suggesting that a Windows 12 is unlikely.

The main factor behind the theory involves Microsoft’s desire to limit the fragmentation of the Windows user base. If Windows 12 were to become a reality, we’d see a portion of users jumping to the latest OS, a portion still on Windows 11, and a whole lot of users still running Windows 10 (stuck behind a barrier of ridiculous mandatory requirements).

No doubt the expense of maintaining support infrastructure for each OS would be quite high so, from Microsoft’s point of view, limiting the number of active operating systems does make fiscal sense.

To add fuel to the fire, a recent leak mentioning a Windows 11 24H2, lends credence to the theory that the next version of Windows will be delivered in the form of a feature update rather than a complete operating system upgrade.

This is, of course, all supposition and does not necessarily rule out a Windows 12. However, that supposition appears to be well-founded, and, as mentioned earlier, it makes perfect sense that Microsoft would be keen to limit the number of active OSs and associated support infrastructures.

BOTTOM LINE:

One thing is for certain, no matter what the name, the next Windows version will come with heavily integrated AI – perhaps “Windows AI” might be appropriate?

Didn't they already jam an AI into recent releases of the Edge browser, even on Windows 10?
Yep sure have, Simply select the Copilot logo in the upper right corner of the browser to unlock AI-powered Edge Features. Other built-in AI features include: Compose. Compose is an AI text generator built into Copilot

The computer I a am writing this on right now is Windows 7. I still have a desktop that has Windows XP Media edition 2005 that I still use. I keep it off the internet. It has a standalone version of Word 2000 that works and I never have to worry about not being connected or it asking for upgrades.

Just wondering how people think... How old is your car? My PC is all new, latest Win 11 Insider Preview version, but my two cars are 23 and 31 yrs old.

Likewise, also running Win 7 and refuse all 'updates' and run non windoze applications such as Open Office, I really dont want or need all the fancy new bells n whistles that are almost daily added to the new systems I have enough trouble remembering where stuff is on this system I have been running for years! Do have a Linux system on standby on my other computer but that is another big learning curve which this old mind is not fully ready for.....
How many folks here started on Win 3.1 or even a Commodore 64?

Interesting thread. Thanks for posting it, @kburra

That's very interesting that you continue to be able to use windows 7 online, @Bocco
I think that's great.
Also, welcome to our forum.

When 10 Pro is discontinued to be supported, then Windows has 11 Pro and one day Windows will release the 11 pro version will no longer be supported and so you have a choice, either get a anti-virus that works sort of like a virus and slows down the putter or you can go to 12 Pro or maybe it will be 20 Pro or something entirely different named but that's how it works most likely. They do the same with Office. 2003 no longer updated. 2007 is spotty. Pretty much the same horse as Microsoft Works. There was a Time if you had Windows 95 you could add most anything. They stopped that with SSD and the boot process.

Windows 11 coded Sun Valley ..... Windows 12 coded Next Valley Fall of 2024

I liked XL. Maybe they will revert back to the former name again, just with different Working system. When Microsoft decides to change it pretty much does as it pleases, most the Puters mainly run Microsoft or Apple operating systems.

You can save a lot of time by brushing up on the keyboard commands.

I'm not surprised that there's little incentive for putting out a version 12.

Windows11 is entrenched with way more marketing tools, than 10.

windows 12 pro release date - Bing

Microsoft is on a 3 year release date format.
Last 10 update 22H2 .... Last11update 23H2 .... Makes sense 12 will be ... 24H2 ___ 27H2

Apple phones 6 pro worked well, cracked glass, XR worked well, was updated until it wouldn't work with 2 towers within 2 miles.
14 didn't work worth a dang, got a different Cellular provider and a 14 plus, works very nicely. We live 2 blocks from the police station and
a mile from the fire department. 2 Wifi servers in house. Couldn't send a Cell Text message sometimes for 2 weeks. The Change over to
5 G was a nightmare. 2 - 4 G worked great.

I had a Commodore 64. not hooked to internet just Microsoft Jane, Okidata printer and 2 floppy discs. Word processor was all I needed. Next came Microsoft 2000 and dial up AOL & Yahoo. No adds for years. I think fondly of those years and the twin floppies. One had Jane and the other for Data, files, etc. The Kids preferred the wireless wall phone. The future was pat. I still like Yahoo the best. Some gaming but I tired early of them.

The value of MS stock is expected to skyrocket within 5 years because they’re so far ahead in AI.

Ohhh you had the cartridge drive! How fancy, we made do with a tape recorder

For me, the ZENITH in computing came when we upgraded from a 300 baud modem to a 9600 baud modem and Prodigy just FLEWWWW!!

Nothing else compared to the thrill of an 8 bit graphic loading in 10 seconds instead of minutes!
