Winter Storm - 18 States declare state of emergency as of 1/24/26

It started snowing around 5AM this morning and hasn't stopped. So far I have 14" on the ground with more on the way until 1PM Monday afternoon. Calling for another 8-10" by then. Temperature right now is 8 degrees F (-13C).

I shoveled snow for 4 hours and quit for the day. Will get back at it tomorrow morning. Just don't know where to pile it anymore. Still have my vehicle to clear of snow yet too. It's good I advised my boss that I would not be coming into work today and Monday because of this weather. (Our store is open both days because we are the only grocery store in town.)

Snow plow has only made 2 passes all day. Main road looks terrible to travel on. I've only seen a few cars go down the center of the road to get to where ever they intended to go.

I have now locked them out of the main pasture, and they are not happy with me. Too bad too sad, they have a couple acres of flat where I can find them with the spotlight. We are going down to single digits with feels like below zero possibly tonight.

We are not going to be out of the 20° range until Wednesday , and that will only be for one day.

The Nashville news stations have been on all day today trying to tell people what to do who don’t know what to do when their power goes out. The state highway patrol have been interviewed and they are telling everyone if you don’t have to leave the house stay home, so the first responders can get to where they need to get to safely.

Along with trees crashing everywhere , they are showing lighthearted pictures of dogs, loving the snow. My dogs have no desire to go outside until they absolutely have to. They weigh 75 pounds apiece, but they also have very short hair. They have coats, but the boy dog thinks he can’t pee with the coat on, so I don’t dare put it on him to go out and do his business🫣

The hope on my road is we make it through the night without having to use our generators. Looking at the outage map, There are quite a few power failures in my county, but not nearby.

I have enough supplies for about three weeks for my critters and myself. That is standard practice for me given where I live. My hope is I don’t have to use it all up before I can get down to the main road. If not, Plan B is to have my neighbor, who is a deputy sheriff, pick up anything I need and pay for it over the phone with a credit card so he doesn’t have to worry about money. He has a specially built four-wheel-drive for the sheriff department so he can pretty much go through the field whenever he has to. Probably swim for all I know lol lol

I have two pieces of Ghirardelli’s chocolate peppermint rice crisp left. I don’t think it’ll make it to the end of this weather event.😂😂

We went ahead and started the generator around midnight last night even with power not wanting to have to wake up to do it since it involves connecting into the main breaker outside (have an automatic whole house propane one on order but getting the county code approved line from the propane tank to the genny is a six week's wait). Anyhow, I was up checking the outage maps through the night and the outage situation lit up fast but we had freezing rain steady for five or so hours. Even if you're not getting precipitation, one unluckily placed falling limb can get you. They've been falling all day here ...it sounds like a war zone.

The Ghirardelli chocolate peppermint situation most certainly calls for the deputy neighbor's 4-wheel drive! :ROFLMAO:

We had several inches of snow but hard to know how much because then the icy stuff falling has packed it down. I'm not planning to even try to get out until Tuesday and then I'll ride the community shuttle. It is supposed to remain below freezing for more than a week, so I guess the stuff won't go away this time.

Snowstorms make me remember earlier ones, once in Colorado between the amount of snow and the wind, the entire south side of the barn was heaped up snow all the way to the roof. And in Nebraska the snow and wind would be so heavy that looking out it was like watching a river of snow constantly flowing by. And in Maryland in 1994 there was almost an entire month of ice, not fun for the horses. And in 1996 there were two huge snows back to back and it was so hard to find any place in the apartment parking lot to put all the snow when I dug out my car. Ah, the memories.

The snowstorm in Central New York has kind of fizzled out in my area.

We have about a foot of light fluffy snow and the roads are clear but snow covered, the road salt doesn’t work when it’s super cold.

Approx. 250 schools and businesses decided to close yesterday ahead of the storm. It seems like every time precautions are taken the storm fizzles.

It has been a snowy winter, 105” of snow so far this season.

My little patch of woods didn't see much. We finally got a hour's worth of light freezing rain, but no power outages. It did get cold and cloudy, but it was basically a non event, but areas both north and south, just a few miles away were shown getting some nasty conditions by weather radar. I have not yet heard any reports about them. There were power outages in an area about 20 miles from my house.

I googled current movies at my closest movie theater (40 miles as the crow flies) this morning, and there was a notice, "Closed today because of inclement weather." Meanwhile at my house, it's 30 degrees F, and the sun is shining bright. But the temperature is dropping quickly and could be in the teens later today. Cold is not my problem, even snow, but loss of power annoys me.

Caught him! The neighbor that's been snowblowing my driveway. I had gone out to shovel around 8 am and did about a 5 foot wide path down to the road. Where the street plow came, through, it was about a 3 to 4 foot ridge of impacted snow. I did break through, though and did in front of the mailbox (although I doubt there will be a mail delivery today).

Then I rested a bit and was going to go back out when I saw him coming over with his blower. I did speak to him and offered him money, but he refused it and said not to worry about any snow and he would "take care if it." He mentioned that he did another neighbor woman's property. That guy should get a citizens award!

Still snowing a fine snow. Official total so far here is 13.7 inches (35 cm).

I am in CNY and it snowed hard all day yesterday and overnight. Now it is snowing ligher but the flakes are big. When I got up this am and opened the blinds there were 8+ residents all working together to clear cars. The plow was here too. Lots of big banks of snow. It really was a nice scene to see the people here working together , did my heart good. Also 3 of them were wearing the hats I had knitted and donated. I am clean, toasty and well fed and hope to contine.

It's 21°F at 10 AM my time and that's about as "warm" as we will see today - going to 14°F tonight, then hopefully it will go above freezing tomorrow afternoon sometime. It helps psychologically that it's a clear, sunny day, but the sun will produce no warming today. Schools are closed and no one is outside. I'm simmering a pot of pinto beans to have later with a chicken breast, tomatoes and brocolli that's cooking in the crock pot.
