Winter Weather & Driving

This crash made the ABC evening news. It's a fine example of how quickly things can get out of control on a snowy/icy roadway. It's a good thing the people working on another crash saw this clown coming and got out of the way. Winter driving Requires some real caution, and those who think they can drive at a normal speed are just asking for trouble.

Hard to know. Could they have not been paying attention as they rounded that curve. Very strange.

I lived in snow having not grown up in it. No snow where I live now. I slid a couple of times but never off the road. I was diligent and careful. Probably too slow for those around me but I was at least never one of those cars I noted abandoned in the ditch.

It seems to have gotten worse in my area over the years.

I attribute a lot of it to people on cell phones, excessive speed, all-season factory tires, and the newer style brakes.

I'm still adapting to the newer style brakes and the traction control system. I would much rather be the one driving the car instead of turning the decisions over to a computer chip.

The good news is that most of us retired folks can pick and choose when we head out on the roads.

I attribute a lot of it to people on cell phones
That is the major cause of accidents today. They should come up with a law that bans texting & talking on the phone while driving even on a hands free speaker phone. The only exception is to call 911 for an emergency. Want to talk, pull over and stop at the safe side of the road and talk all you want.

Not anything new just interesting that the driver looks like it was intentional to do what happened.
Or they might not know how to steer into the slide, I watched some video once of a variety of cars on a long icy bridge and the narrator was pointing out stuff like that.

We have winter same time and long.......but.......so many drivers drive like they've no fear of ice and snow
Then havoc happens.........do you think they're any wiser..........no, no, no.
and also quite often, they're using some kind tech stuff.

I think the biggest mistake most folks make in driving in winter conditions is not slowing down. It is just impossible to drive safely at the same speeds in ice and snow as it is in clear conditions. I don't know why some people find that so hard to grasp.
