Wish Me Luck - Just had to take our Doggie into the Emergency Vet

Huzz noticed her eating something on the garage floor, got her to stop eating whatever it was; put her in the car to go to the park; when they got to the park, she acted like she couldn't (or didn't want to) move. So we rushed her to the veterinarian. I wonder if she had pulled a muscle or something like she had before, but the vet says she almost acts like she's stoned, like from marijuana.

He's doing a bunch of blood tests, etc. We've got some MJ in the house locked up to where she couldn't get at it and it's never anywhere else. What I'm wondering is where whatever it was she was eating was in the garage right near the door and our yard crew were here yesterday running the leaf blower and maybe they dropped some and it got blown up under the door inside.

The vet says since it's been legalized here, he's seeing more and more of this happening (dogs getting into it).

We get to go pick her up in about 30 minutes; I hope she's going to be okay. She's about 13 and I know this should be the last dog we have since we're getting too old. 😥 Wish us luck, thanks.

Oh Ripley, I hope she'll be okay. What a terrible fright for you. 🫂

Thanks, everyone, well we got her back from the vet. He said all her blood work looks good except it showed a couple of enzymes in her stomach which could indicate her ingesting something that didn't agree with her. They also gave her an antibiotic and something for nausea and a bunch of fluids. She's still acting out of it and having trouble walking.
If she's not better by tomorrow afternoon, we'll have to take her to the emergency vet the other end of town since her vet'll be closed tomorrow due to remodeling.

So sorry to hear. Was hoping for better news. Hope she can weather this. 🤗 :(🤗
Thanks, me too. I was so hoping she could have a couple more good years since I know this should be the last dog we have. We're old enough that if we were to get another dog, it could well outlive us and since we don't have kids, we don't have anybody who would take it and give it a good home for us. So I've been really dreading living without a dog; I used to live without a dog and I was not a happy camper. I know a lot of people think it makes me a weirdo--they may well be right--but living without a dog is mostly a joyless existence for me.

I asked one of the office staff at the vet's yesterday if she knew of any organization here in town who does take dogs in that situation and she said no.

Oh, well, there are a lot of people who have it much worse than I so I shouldn't complain but thanks for listening anyway.

@officerripley , I understand. They are family. You have to consider different options. Hard to be without and hard to think of what could "if" other things happen .

Ya know, taking in dogs and cats from those that have no resources would be a good thing to start.

Vet's offices could make lists of who has to lose a pet and who needs a pet. Or animal shelters. (Some places don't like messing with extra efforts.

I think it would be good to be able to re-home a pet that is older to older pet-parents that feel like you do.

Just musings of this dusty mind.

Please keep advised. 🤗

Those are good ideas; every dog we've owned, we adopted from the different animal societies. And people have mentioned to me: "Get a dog old enough that you're sure you'll outlive it." But then I'd have to go through this--saying goodbye to a beloved pet--at least one more time and I just don't feel up to it anymore. The only way I could stand doing it before was because I knew we would adopt another dog.

So I just need to figure out a way to live without a dog.
