Wishing a Joyful Winter Solstice to all who celebrate.

Solstice is an ancient celebration throughout the world. It's not wiccan, and it's not about witches and warlocks. It's pagan, and much older than anything organized. If I wanted to get stuck watching some guy who dresses funny performing rituals, I would still be Catholic.

Is this comment suppose to have something to do with my answer to Hal's question about "how and by whom"... because if it does I don't understand your point.

My point is that Solstice has been co-opted as a wiccan/witch/warlock celebration when ancient paganism pre-existed those groups by centuries. My opinion is that your quotation leaned in that direction, having mentioned only wiccans, witches and warlocks and I wanted to clear up any misunderstanding. I'm not anti what you said and I certainly don't want to jump on my horse and go fight a crusade and kill people over it, but I wanted to make sure anyone who is interested enough to read this thread knows there is far more to Solstice than wiccan rituals.

I was at Stonehenge for Summer Solstice in 2014 and I hope to make it there for Winter Solstice in 2018 or '19. I'm not wiccan or pagan or any of those other types. I just think it is human to appreciate God's work, however we choose to do so.

Peace and love

I only mentioned Wiccans because I was aware they celebrated the winter solstice and that was at least one answer to Hal's question about "how and by whom" and thought I was doing him a favor by sharing that info. If you know others, great! I'm interested in "how and by whom" too, that's why I remembered that about Wiccans.

Speaking of interesting things... I lost a dog I was foster caring for for an old friend having serious health problems. I had known that dog for it's entire life and had it in my care for the last year of it's life (made it to nine). I was quite depressed about it (lymphoma took her) and another friend suggested getting another dog right away worked for them in the past. So I started visiting my local animal shelter and came across a beautiful dog. It was too much dog for me and I mentioned to the associate that took it to their bonding yard that it looked like a coy dog to me, a cross between a German Shepherd and a coyote. She said it might be a CAROLINA DOG. l had never heard of a Carolina Dog and googled that term when I got home... fascinating is all I'm going to say. Check it out for yourself if you are interested.

BTW I did end up adopting a smaller dog, a beagle mix.

Cool-looking dogs, dpwspringer. It's hard when you fall for a dog but you know it's too much for you. Pariah dogs that are still somewhat non-domesticated, interesting description.

I went through that years ago when a friend wanted to give me a gorgeous pure white shepherd. I loved that dog but I knew he was too much dog for a small woman who lived in town and had a young child. He ended up with a friend who was a professional boxer and ran for miles every day. His new owner had lots of young male friends who roughhoused with and socialized the dog, so it worked out for the best all around.
