With the promise of cooler weather ahead

I'm in cooking and baking mode. Does anybody else get like this or is it just me?

There were thinly-veiled remarks, accompanied by semi-frowns, about not having desserts for the past couple of months. Hm. It's really been too hot to think about food...meals or desserts.

I found a recipe for an apple cake that can be made using a mix and a can of apple pie filling that isn't a dump cake. Definitely going to try that one using a Bundt pan, and since there are only four of us these days, going to cut it in half and freeze one.

Think about it...in the olden days, when I was much younger, I wouldn't have dreamed of using a mix for anything. Now, if it's a dessert and there's not a mix involved, I won't even bother:D.

Also came across a recipe for Gingerale Stew that I haven't made in dog's years. It's one of those with all the ingredients thrown in together at the same time, covered and cooked in a Dutch oven. The recipe says "no peeking!" As I recall, it's way up high on the delicious list, and I'm all about dinner that can be made in one pot.

Anyway, the weather needs to change real quick because I'm getting hungry;). By spring, I will have put on a few bunch of extra pounds.

I think it’s instinctive for us to want to cook and bake more when the weather gets cooler. I’m in more of a cooking mode lately. Squash soup and muffins are some of the things I’ve been thinking of lately. Yes we gain a few pounds but we also usually lose them when summertime comes along, so cook and bake away is what I say. :)

Patty, it just gets hotter every day here since the calendar show the Autumnal Equinox. Summer isn't leaving in a big hurry.

Now that I've said that we'll probably have a blizzard tomorrow. Never fails. 🤣
