OMG - have seen it many times but this time was like almost fresh in the mind - I was spell bound B/W - stark - Jack Nicholson so young - but having worked myself in MH institutions - this was new; fresh and very stark - acting from all magnificent - if you haven't seen it for some time try it again - I left me gasping ; spellbound and also now feeling so sad for Jack in his lonely lifestyle - any recent news about him from you 'yankie' guys??

Yes, I like the movie, and agree with your assessment of the acting.

But what I wonder about, having read your post and learning that you've had experience working in mental-health institutions, is this: how much do you think things have changed since the 1960s when Kesey's book was written, and 1975 when the movie was released?

I worked in the era of large MH institutions - staff were even offered single accommodation of gardened homes for married staff - they no longer exist - in UK or Oz where I now reside. the focus is on community care - but haven't read any recent articles - we were all dubious of that but it was the focus of the future?? My sis retired nurse lives in Vancouver suburbs could ask her views - would be interesting in contrast to yours??

@smiley, when you ask "in contrast to yours?" are you asking something about my understanding, since I live in Canada? (In the same province as Vancouver, but eight-hours drive from that city.)

Personally, I have no familiarity with MH institutions here. I've known a few people who have been outpatients, getting meds perscriptions and occasional check-ins or psychological counseling. Nothing more.
