In my morning perusal of the digital edition of the NY Times, I came across this link, a story of survival out of Fort Smith, NWT in Canada. The woman and her friend were picking morel mushrooms in the area recently burned out by wild fires. A wolf blocked their way back to their truck and ended up stalking one of the two women (they became separated) for 12 hours, but it had a good ending after a brave decision in the early morning hours. Fascinating story found here. I had to look up where
this is. North of Alberta.

We have had wolves introduced and released up here in Scotland. In the Cairngorms national park. I personally think it was a mistake. Britain is not large enough and just too overpopulated.

We humans seem to forget that while we consider ourselves the top of the food chain... we can also be prey. Animals don't care... Like Andrew Zimmer of Bizarre Foods likes to say.. "If it looks good....eat it!"

I am not sure I would have had the presence of mind to draw the wolf towards the bear. Great instinctive decision in a crucial moment.

Well we have survived as a species because of our brains... it certainly wasn't our physical prowess..

Yes, great point! I also noted the "millions of mosquitos" referenced in the article. That would have driven my crazy. I hate one of those little pests flying around my head.

I saw that. To top it off a beer can saved her from dehydration once she reached the lake. She understood the wolf wasn't going to let her go towards the truck. They wolf was just cutting off an escape route of it's prey.

I've heard if attacked by a vicious dog pull the ears and hit the nose as. Noses seem to be sensitive on most animals. So are the eyes.

Whilst "man" are not on the menus of most predatory animals, when face with inadequate food sources and/ or starvation, they will hunt man as viable food source. The polar bear views most anything as a food source, up to and including man.man

Gads, just for the record kids, if you are going to be killed by a wild animal, pray that it's of the cat species. Bears will maul you as will wolves. The big cats and it's over pretty quickly.
