Woman released after 43 years in prison; she was wrongfully convicted.

My son was involved with the Innocence Project for few years. It's amazing how many were proven innocent after serving many years. I don't recall any women but I'm sure it happens.
"proven innocent" ? Or found not guilty by reason of a technicality ? There is IMO a huge difference.

That's so interesting. I'm glad they exist even if they prevent one case like this it's worth it.

What else is new?

There was a story in the newspaper of a guy who served ten years in prison for rape. The gal who accused him at some point became a born again Christian and decided she could not live with the lie she had told under oath. She confessed to making up the rape part of the story because her parents would have been very upset to find out she was living a risqué life.

At least it wasn’t 43 years. That’s horrible.

The volume of evidence of wrongdoing on the part of police, judges, faulty witnesses, and district attorneys in achieving wrongful convictions is overwhelming and staggering. Unfortunately many wrongfully convicted never get the chance to have their cases see the light of day. It's only the cases where those sentenced to life or decades in prison do these cases ever get looked into.

Here is a case in point, where the mere technicality of his innocence finally came into play during trial.

Sort off on topic. A friend of mine was accused of forcing himself on a 14 yr/old girl. The daughter of his girlfriend @ the time. It's a long story , I'll try to shorten.

My friend told me to my face that he was scared , thought sure he was going to prison. All the evidence pointed to him. Time, location mom & daughter accusing, etc.

Well, during the trial, the daughter broke down, on the witness stand, confessed that it was all a lie, started by her mother, because my friend refused to marry her. The daughter was so distraught , [in court] that the judge called 911 for her.

My friend must have aged 10 years, and it costs him $58,000 in defense fees .

He never was the same emotionally afterwards. He died [due to cancer] about eight years later.
