OMG...OMG.... I nearly threw up...but why was no-one helping her apart from one guy who was waving a bit of rag vaguely in her direction?.. what the actual hell ?... That poor woman she just stood there burning, not even trynig to roll and put the fire out herself,.OMG...:eek::eek:

This is in our papers today..people are hysterical and furious that no-one helped this lady..even the police walked past and did't help.. they're calling for the heads of the cops who just walked on by and did nothing...

what is worse is the person in the video who I thought was waving a rag at the lady was actually the person who lit her on fire, and he was fanning the flames...rather than making an efot to put the out

Disturbing videos show a man identified by Fox News as Sebastin Zapeta, a 33-year-old migrant from Guatemala, sitting on the platform at Stillwell Avenue in Brooklyn after he allegedly lit the unnamed passenger on fire as she slept on the F train just before 7.30am on Sunday.

Zapeta, who is now in custody, can even be seen fanning the flames in one clip while the victim leans on the subway carriage exit completely engulfed by the blaze and other New Yorkers capture the unfolding horror on their phones.

Meanwhile, an NYPD officer walks by and appears to wave his hand over the scene in exasperation, but does not intervene to detain the suspect or help the victim.

NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch told a press conference that officers who responded were not aware the suspect was on the scene at the time.

DailyMail.com has asked for comment on why cops appear to have strolled past the burning woman several times without helping. Police have not yet charged Zapeta or identified the victim, who did not know each other.

Shocked social media users have blasted the police response - describing the behavior of cops caught on camera as 'cowardly' and 'shameful' while calling for them to be named or fired.

'Police officer walks by. Doesn't take his jacket off to smother the flames. Not his problem. Guess he doesn't get paid too much. Can we find out who he is? His behavior is shameful,' one person wrote on X.
I don't know which is more wild. The fact she's on fire and just standing there, or the guy who did it and is just sitting watching, the guy recording or the cop that just walked on by like all was normal,' another said.

'Many people freeze up in these situations, and some are just scared of getting hurt. The Police on the other hand, are there to protect and preserve life,' another person chimed in.

'They stood there and did nothing. One of them even got so fed up with the situation he waved his hands as if to say "I can't be bothered with this anymore" and stormed off, as if an innocent woman dying was an inconvenience to him.'

'The cop should go to jail for not helping. This is the oath they take. Coward,' one person said, while another agreed, 'that cop needs to be fired.'

The face of evil. Guatemalan migrant

The picture of the cop casually walking by apparently should merit an investigation by the police department. Why be a cop if you don't want to get involved.
Precisely..absolutely ...I'm absolutely stunned as is half the world going by the comments that the cop seemed to just shrug and walk past, didn't try and help didn't get any help..absolutely terrible.. that poor women, on fire and no-one even attampting to put the flames out..

i saw this on X and tried to report it. There was no category that it fit in. I blocked it. I saw it again on someone else's post, blocked it. I can't erase it from my mind. Why would anyone record such a violent act?

this was the terrible thing... not only was no-one helping, not even a cop... but standing there filming it while the woman stood burning to death in utter agony... that person should be arrested for failing to at least try and get some help

I tell you if anything has ever made me lose faith in the human race it was this act today.. by everyone who was a witness to this ... I'm absolutely disgusted with the people who call themselves human beings who were at that train station while this was occurring...

I'm still in shock , I don't think I'll ever forget this...

Ever watch the movie JAWS where the politician claims there is no problem in the water?

This kind of reminds me of if you don't personally see it == it doesn't exist.

Kathy Hochul’s post boasting subway crime is going down came hours after reports of two different train killings

Look what happened to Daniel Penny. Who’s going to try to detain the lunatic responsible for this? It’s outrageous that no one tried to help her though. Although I’m not sure what I’d have done. My question is what the hell was she wearing that went up in flames so quickly? And, by the way, suspect is an illegal immIgrant.

I could guess he has decided to spend the rest of his life in New York State prison getting health insurance.
Some will go to no end for a free meal, clean sheets and a hot bath. His clothes are probably stolen too,
but naked in Prison is a preferred option by some.

Maybe he wasn't safe back home and giving the Donald the Finger too ?

I'd like to think I would have tried to help that poor woman, but truth is I probably would have been afraid of getting a lot of pain.
yes I understand, but someone could have run to get help from someone .. to get an extinguisher... to take their coat off and smother her in it...something... I feel such despair at the people there, I'm just stunned...😩

Sebastian Zapeta-Calil, the man charged with setting the woman on fire in the New York City subway, was not a long-term resident of the area. Here are the key points about his residence:
  1. Zapeta-Calil was living in a homeless shelter in Brooklyn at the time of the incident
    3
    4
    .
  2. The shelter where he was staying catered to men battling substance abuse issues
    3
    .
  3. He is an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala who had previously been deported in 2018 and later re-entered the United States illegally
    1
    2
    .
  4. The exact date and location of his re-entry into the U.S. are unknown
    2
    .
  5. His most recent known address was the homeless shelter in Brooklyn, but it's unclear how long he had been staying there
    3
    4
    .
Given these facts, it appears that Zapeta-Calil was not a long-term or established resident of the area, but rather someone who had been living in temporary accommodation after illegally re-entering the country.

I enjoyed this article... and it names a few other victims of violence in NYC. I totally hate the fact that this monster may have done this for no other reason than to enjoy the perks of a US prison. I think if these horrendous crimes are caught on video and the guilt is right there for all to see, it should go directly to sentencing and carrying the sentence out. This "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't really work in our society of live video. Who could get someone proven innocent when we all watch the crimes as they happen?!

Why did no one help her? Fatal subway burning exposes New York City’s sad disconnect to humanity

In that article you posted it says exactly what I've been saying since yesterday '' quote... Surely, someone would have thrown their coat over her, ran to look for water, screamed at her to stop, drop and roll. Found a fire extinguisher. Yelled for help. Something. Most of us like to think we would have acted to save her life.

Absolutely horrendous that no-one went to her aid or even attempted it.. ...shame on them and shame on the man who stood filming and said as he filmed... he felt he was watching an ''Immersive art display''' F** k. you.. man... you failed as a human being you should be arrested for failing to get help

I know this station, Stillwell Avenue, the last stop for several trains, in Coney Island, very very well. Did he also use some sort of.........well, did he splash her with something that caused.........can't think of the word.

As the last stop, or first, a train idles for about 10 minutes waiting to restart the trip. I can barely speak, this shocked me and scared me so intensely.

Then, this morning, I heard of a 75 yr. old woman getting punched in the face while waiting for a different train, different station.

All that is in my mind is Lord have mercy; Christ have mercy for this poor woman. A homeless woman? Has anyone come forth to claim her?

You have no idea how close to home this is. How often I saw the homeless asleep at Stillwell Avenue. Right in View is Nathan's, the Hot Dog Giant, and all the rides of Coney Island.

It makes little sense. In fact, it makes no sense at all. Unless the perp had a flame-thrower (or the victim's clothes were drenched in petrol) I cannot believe she coud have been set ablaze.
