Woman survived Texas tornado by sheltering in walk-in closet

With a tornado bearing down on her home in Bell County, Texas, about 70 miles north of Austin, Vivian Forsythe took shelter in the only place she could -- her walk-in closet.

A powerful storm was bringing large hail, damaging winds and a strong tornado to the area around Salado, Texas. As the storm was tracking through the area, Forsythe noticed the unusually intense weather.

Not surprising. Smart of her. As our weather gets more extreme with some phenomena sometimes happening in less common places that last parapragh of article contains some important info of which everyone should aware.

Having lived in along Gulf Coast several decades of my life where tornadoes can form and spin off of hurricanes like some demon spawn, i've known this stuff for a long time.

Interior windowless spaces best--a central hallway, a walkin closet, a laundry room. If its just you even a regular closet. Such areas provide protection from debris that is traveling at velocities that turn small items into deadly projectiles. Sometimes these safer spaces even remain standing when exterior walls have been destroyed by the tornado.
