Why am I so drawn to a place I have never been to? By DNA I am 100% German, yet I love everything Celtic. My favourite country is Scotland! By book and film! Okay, Canada as well, but I did live in New Scotland (Nova Scotia) for most of my life. :)

My favourite music is anything that is Celtic! Bagpipes are a horror to many, to me they produce sweet music! The only explanation I have is that the original Celts lived to the east of the Allemannen (my ancestral tribe) and that, when passing through to the West, they left some offspring behind! It's either that or reincarnation!

Sorry Ireland, I love you, too, and really appreciate your music!

  • The Standard Poodle: over 15 inches at the shoulder — most are in the 22-27″ range.
  • The Miniature Poodle: over 10 inches and not over 15 inches at the shoulder – most are in the 13-15″ range.
  • The Toy Poodle: 10 inches and under at the shoulder.

There is speculation among geneticists about knowledge, attitudes and preferences actually being encoded in DNA and handed down through the generations.
I'm a late bloomer with my attraction to "things" of the British Isles, had assumed my DNA originated mostly from Switzerland and Germany.
I'm mostly English-Welsh-Scottish.

Saw a documentary on the Celts and it turns out they are not a DNA identifiable group. It was more of a cultural thing and language that spread to many peoples. Many Germans were also Celts, the folks we think of as Celts today are on the fringes of where the Celts originally existed, fringes where the languages and cultures were less modified.

So it seems you, at 100% German, may well be of Celtic origin.

It may also explain why so many of us appreciate things Celtic. Probably not @Pinky , but then there are Japanese things I appreciate.

During a historical presentation about our ancestry at a family reunion a couple of decades ago I found out that one of the first ancestors we were traced back to besides Africans, was a German slave trader. :mad: But oddly, although my DNA results show a small amount of ancestry from Europe, Germany wasn't one of the countries listed.

You pose an interesting question OS. I've always felt an affiliation for Egypt. In fact, at a club in Washington DC that was frequented by a lot of Africans, I was asked if I was Egyptian by a man who said I looked like I am, which surprised me. I would not dismiss reincarnation or long lost ancestry as a possible explanations for feeling the connection. BTW...I don't think bagpipes are a horror but wouldn't want to have to listen to them for more than a couple of minutes.

Well, what can I say. I don't expect an Egyptian to be madly in love with bag pipes! ;) And there is far more to celtic music than the wail of the pipes!

They sound good OS. I've been thinking about starting a World Music thread. You are the catalyst for me doing that right now. It will be a place you can post more Celtic music and even bagpipe music. :D Look for the thread in the Entertainment section.

Some of my kinfolk did like to wander! I am Saxon on my father's side!
 
Believe in our "urges" we find our past lives, like what kind of furnishings, clothing, music, terrain, pets, etc. we like and choose to have around us. If we open our minds we can learn much about our life experiences and why we made and do make the choices we do.

To me there is no "belief" in reincarnation, as it either is or isn't . You can't make it true or false by believing in it.
Its like a 200 lb cement block being held over your head. I can't make you believe its there and tell you someone is
cutting the line that holds the block and it will fall on your head. It either will or it won't.

Know reincarnation is a fact of life. Have remembered several past lives and Diva- I've been to Egypt and do think it is the "motherland" - many of us have had lives in Egypt and feel very much at "home" when they travel there.
