Word of the Day: Adumbrate

What does Adumbrate mean?

1 : to foreshadow vaguely : intimate the social unrest that adumbrated the French Revolution. 2 : to suggest, disclose, or outline partially adumbrate a plan. 3 : overshadow, obscure bubbling optimism, not at all adumbrated by difficulties.

Used in sentences:

  1. With assistance from the victim, the sketch artist will adumbrate a picture of the robbery suspect.
  2. The artist chose colors to adumbrate the trees in the forest so they would seem mysterious and shadowy.

Thanks, I thought so, too. I don't believe I've heard or seen it before now.

I hadn't heard of it or hadn't noticed it , before either.
And it's an interesting word and idea, to ponder.

Plus, now if/when we do come across the word being used, someplace in the future, we will have a general concept of what is meant.

And we might even be more apt to notice it someplace, now that you pointed it out. :)
I have found that, with other unfamiliar words in the past.:geek:
