Word of the Day - Aegis

New employees are often guided under the aegis of more seasoned and experienced workers.

(I looked this word up after seeing it in the names of nursing homes, convalescent facilities, assisted living homes, etc., and didn't know the meaning or correct pronunciation.)

I thought the point of this thread was to increase our vocabulary. As I said in my original post, I picked aegis because I've noticed it quite a bit in connection with senior housing and facilities.

It's not a word I'm likely to frequently use myself, but at least now I'll know what it means when I see it.
