Caterwaul - to make loud screeching or yowling sounds. Rather like a couple of cats fighting.
Sometimes when my grandchildren go at it with their siblings, the caterwauling is enough to drive a saint to drink.
p.s. I've always thought this was such a fun, colorful word, but it's rarely used these day.
