Word of the Day - Doxology

Doxology - a short religious verse or prayer that is sung. The brief chant or song that comes at the end of a prayer.

"Old 100th" is a popular doxology melody.

My great-grandfather used to say, "That pie is singing the doxology", meaning "that pie is gone".

The doxology is sung after every collection in the church.

You know, I do, too.

On occasion, I would go to church with my late mother or with my granddaughter, and the songs they'd sing would be nice, but I miss the "traditional" ones....the rousing ones, the majestic ones, the meaningful ones.

Lately, I've been finding myself singing and humming some of the old ones. I marvel that I can remember most of the words.
