Indemnity (noun) - 1) protection against a loss or other financial burden. 2) security against or exemption from legal liability for one's actions. 3) a sum of money paid as compensation.

Most insurance underwriters offer double indemnity on life insurance if the death is from accidental causes.

I don’t know why but I’ve always had a disdain for the insurance business model. It seems to be a little deeper than the obvious fact they make their money from your misfortune.
