Word of the Day - Sabermatrics

It seemed that sabermetrics began with some possibly interesting, informative and sensible observations; then, rapidly mushroomed into so many numbers and letters and terms, that they hardly made any sense any more!

Sabermetrics is a most interesting term that I've never heard before but can see it can have much use to many.

The movie called Moneyball is about how Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane relied solely on sabermatrics to scout fresh blood and build a winning team for their 2002 season. The method was so successful, everybody started using it. And talking about it. And writing about it. And televised MLB games became practically unwatchable; about as exciting as sitting through a 2 to 3 hour lecture on calculus.

Of course not, cricket is the chess of team sports. No other team game can be played for five consecutive days and still end in a draw.
Thanks for clearing up that question! :D
I don't (obviously) know anything about cricket, but it sounds fascinating and gripping. :giggle:
