Workplace Incidents You’ve Witnessed

Our office was on El Camino Rd., a busy Palo Alto street, when one afternoon a car came crashing through the parking lot and through our large plate glass window. The driver quickly exited the car and ran looking for a rest room. When I heard the noise, I thought it was just another earthquake until I walked to the front of the office and saw the car just missing a coworker.

Wasn't an incident at work per day, but it happened to a colleague.

A proofreading clerk, he stood at 6 feet plus. As well is was nearly tipping the scale at over 300lbs. He had serious health problems.

After being caught in a hurricane with the family's cat, he ended up in hospital. Six months later he'd come back to work but none of us could recognize him.

He was down to a skeletal 160lbs. His high blood pressure back to normal and he was cured of his diabetes. His only remaining problem was epilepsy.

He'd lost the weight due to broken jaws kept shut during recovery. He could only drink liquid nutrients. You can definitely say that his cat gave him his nine lives. He was a totally changed man, except for his personality, he was still a very nice person but one now that had a bright future at just 40 years old.

One day at my district I thought I had seen a large dog walk past my door. I looked again & sure enough a large dog walked past the other way this time. I walked outside & seen a Rottweiler who stopped & looked at me. I called to him, but he wasn't sure if he wanted to come up. I went to my desk & got the dog biscuits I kept for the K-9s & got him to come up.

He was hungry & ate them & I was able to scratch his head. My Admin. Sgt. kept telling me I was going to get bitten. He didn't have a collar on, so I put my belt around him so he couldn't get away. I had a buddy since I fed him. I brought him inside & the Captain came out of his office & asked me what I had. I said a dog that was running loose out front. Then the detective came up to the front & couple of deputies & everyone made over him. Dog was happy.

I called dispatch & asked if anyone had reported a missing Rottweiler in our area & they said no. Told them we had him if the owner should call. The dog stayed with us the rest of the day. We hated to send him the shelter, so the detective who had room at home said he would keep him until the owner was found. The dog had a great temperament because he got along with his other critters & the kids.

Two days later the owner finally called dispatch looking for him. We found out his name was King. Apparently someone had left the yard gate open overnight & King wondered off. He said he never thought about keeping tags on him cause he never walked away before.

I thought he was lucky getting the dog back. Someone else could have found & kept him - or - King could have been hit by a car since our district sat at the corner of two very busy streets, one that is a state route used by semis to get to the interstate.
