World agricultural output

Some of you may be interested in this opinion piece from the Washington Times:

I've got opinions, not facts. I don't doubt that agricultural output has risen what with GMO and Al Gore warming the world so there are more areas warm enough to grow crops.

I doubt though, that output has kept up with the rising world population.

My concern is more about the quality of the crops being grown than the quantity. Unless we grow it, or know who does, it's troubling what the process is becoming anymore.

Numbers shouldn't be the end-all/be-all for certain things, agricultural success among them.

I guess the increased production figures are partly to do with the increasing levels of CO2?
