World UFO Day is an awareness day for people to gather together and watch the skies for unidentified flying objects. The day is celebrated by some on June 24, and others on July 2. June 24 is the date that aviator Kenneth Arnold reported what is generally considered to be the first widely reported unidentified flying object sighting in the United States, while July 2 commemorates the supposed UFO crash in the 1947 Roswell UFO Incident.

that pilot never used the phrase UFO or even unidentified, here is what he said:

On June 24, 1947, the civilian pilot Kenneth Arnold reported seeing nine objects, glowing bright blue-white, flying in a “V” formation over Washington’s Mount Rainier. He estimated the objects’ flight speed at 1700 mph and compared their motion to “a saucer if you skip it across water.” (In newspaper reports of Arnold’s sighting, this description was mistakenly taken to mean that the objects were shaped like saucers, leading to the popularization of the term “flying saucer” as a synonym for UFO.) Though Arnold said he initially thought what he had seen were test flights of military aircraft, the military later said they had been conducting no test flights during the time of the incident. A prospector on Mt. Adams saw the objects at around the same time as Arnold, bolstering his story.


research by several different investigators debunked the sighting! This and the purported roswell incident have misled people for years.
 
With trillions of stars in the universe, many of which probably have solar systems and planets capable of supporting some sort of life, I find it hard to believe that Earth is the Only place where life exists.

If they stop by for a visit I hope they are more friendly and tolerant than we are.
 
if you take the time to think about these sightings you will begin to understand they could not come for a vast distance. we know from study of our solar system there is nothing, and from many other sources, probably nothing in our galaxy either. most of the sightings are of small objects and unless they have some sort of propulsion we are as yet unaware of they could not have come very far, they are not large enough to hold enough fuel, food, water or oxygen.

if they were carried by a larger ship that would be possible but then you have to think, just where is the 'mother ship'. we have never seen one.

and lastly why do they never land and approach us? are we to backwards, to warlike and like in the movies are there no resources here they may have come for.

UFO means just that; unidentified flying object, b52 inflight formation at a great distance---- what the heck are those??

however I do think there is the possiblity that somewhere in the universe there may be some other form of higher life

Just because we don't know how to do something doesn't mean others don't. For example, have you ever considered what someone from say... a thousand years back would think of today's world? Air travel, cars and roads, electricity, heating and cooling, lights, guns, missiles, aircraft carriers, submarines, on line shopping, the Internet, cameras, tvs, cell phones, etc etc.

Just saying there is no way of knowing about the possibility of some things.

If technology and the World change as much in the next 100 years as it has in the last 100...what a truly breathtaking change that will be.

That's for sure, especially when you consider the advances in technology...primarily Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. 100 years from now, human labor will probably be largely obsolete, and if the UN is correct, the population will be over 12 billion. Can you imagine a world where there are 12 billion people...11.9 billion of which are unemployed???

my biggest pet peeve is people who post a reply without giving some thought to what the original post might have meant!!!!!!!

I am not so out of it that I would not realize a far superior being might have more advanced technology, however as I said in my post the small craft often sighted do NOT have the capability to do anything more than go from orbit to ground and back..

I'm not sure where to start but I'll just say this about why I referenced technological advances from 1000 years ago... the difference is kind of mind boggling. Now consider the possibility of somewhere out there existing a civilization with a 1000 year or even a 100,000 year head start on us... who's to say? That's not to say they exist either, we don't know that they do.

As far as not seeing them if they are really out there. Well... I think of it it like this. If they exist they might be a whole lot better at seeing us than we are at seeing them. Just going for a walk in a forrest and not noticing certain wildlife doesn't mean they were not there and if they were, that they didn't notice you. Some critters are real good at not be noticed, especially if they notice you first. And the reason I depart and use the hiking story is just to point out that being seen/detected is not necessarily a two-way street, so to speak.

I don't have the answers but I don't know that anyone else does either. I think the possibility exists.
