World war three, how would we know? When would we know?

Actually there are conventional and global warfare forums that debate world war 1 2 and 3 global war scenarios that debate from the actual ICBM/SLBM launch to detonation timeline varies from 30 minutes for a silo or gantry launched Sarmat/Satan II ICBM and or a sub close to our East or West coast launched ballistic missile in a depressed trajectory from launch to detonation is 5 to 7 minutes.

Our inbound hostile weapons detection system NORAD using SBIRS, OTHBR, PAVE PAWS and CLEAR detection and linking up with Chyenne Mountain, SAC Nebraska, the Pentagon, the president, the vice president, the Pentagon, The National Security Council and the Joint Chiefs of staff is an unclassified approximation. It is believed that the president has approximately 12 to 20 minutes tops to reach Raven Rock or realistically a classified location that nobody knows exist.

Bottom line. In a real world scenario Nobody in he military chain of command will be notifying any civilian agency about anything. I figure us sheep will figure it out when we witness the sun rise twice.

Yes, the grim logic is: if missiles are inbound, there’s almost no time to do anything useful, so resources are focused on military response rather than civilian alerts.
If detonations were detected, then the push alerts from the EAS would spread very rapidly.
Not a very pleasant topic for Thanksgiving.
 
Unlikely such would happen without a lead up period of international disputes and minor conflict. Thus, if the world situation became tense enough, for those flexible enough without job or dependencies like this senior, it would be time to gather materials, especially food, into my vehicle and drive off to safer regional locales. That might not save one from eventual effects of nuclear winter or radiation poisoning or dystopian cannibals. A wealthy person might fly off to an English speaking country in the southern hemisphere.

Since I have plenty of practiced skills living outdoors, and can probably survive with natural foods near Pacific coastal areas, (especially rocky coast shore fishing and tidal zone invertebrate collection) would likely drive north to somewhere remote in California between Fort Bragg and Crescent City where backroads can easily be blocked by destroying small road bridges by locals to prevent being overrun by crazed with weapons urban persons and evil gangs. Once there, if war indeed began, would prefer being solo, not trusting others.
 
My post is not addressing the launch on warning after a breakdown of protracted negotiations concept. My post addresses the feared bolt out of the blue surprise attack. In such a scenario anyone in proximity of the Vandenberg Minuteman III ICBM test base wouldn't think twice about scheduled day and night launches so they really wouldn't even see any incoming ICBM and/or SLBM's.

The only citizens that would know one way or the other would see the Minuteman III ICBMs launching from silos controlled by Minot, F.E. Warren and Malmstrom Air Force bases. They would have at most if even that, 30 minutes to pray because all highways and local roads would be clogged with traffic going to only GOD knows where. I have no time to address the post attack survivability concept as there are a number of forums and foundations addressing that failed concept. Thanks for your post.

A Navy officer friend told me the same thing. He said World War 3 will be between ideologies and not countries and is already going on. The United States has spent billions fighting Islam overseas and the FBI uncovered a Muslim Brotherhood blueprint for destroying America without firing a shot and it is proceeding right on schedule. They destroyed the World Trade Center, bombed the Boston Marathon, stole 9 billion from Minnesota, sent 6 million from Texas to Hamas, moved into positions of power in education, law, Congress and other elected offices without firing a shot and Americans just love them.
