World's Happiest Countries - 2013

It's true but the media has convinced us that we're all in deep doo doo.
The fifth estate (blogs and online news outlets) have tried very hard to counter the propaganda but Aussies seem to prefer the story over the reality.

I've always said that this is the best country in the world to be poor in. So much good stuff is available free - education, medical treatment, libraries, parks and gardens, beaches and sunshine.

I'm very happy.

Shushhhhhh Warri, they'll all want to come here.
Oh yes, they're already arriving aren't they? NLACGB

Yep, we're so happy here we've been importing misery by the boatload just to balance things up.
It's not fair that people who have turned their own homelands into pits of woe should be expected to stay in them. Their talents should be spread among the happier Nations to bring them into line with the overall human despair.

Warri's right, it's a great place to live! We just whinge a lot to hide the fact.

It's time we realized that we only settled it, pioneered it, endured and survived it, and put generations of work into it to make it what it is today so we could welcome those who have stuffed up their own Countries to come in and enjoy it. Hell, that's all we're here for isn't it Polly? To be the World's Lady Bountiful? We should be testing out that 'best Country to be poor in' fairly soon when the wealth gets spread thinner. We're just gonna get happier by the day.

...sorry, the Dark Side is strong in me today. Coffee and chocolate should fix it.

Our forefathers were all the incoming at one time (poor Indians,) but I've heard this said about those that continue to come in from every direction......A flashing neon sign on the Statue of Liberty's hand..... SORRY, NO VACANCIES, WE'RE FULL!!!

I've always wanted to see Australia; maybe even move there. Except - I don't work....can Australia afford to support me, and give me free medical care; food stamps, etc??

Therein, lies part of the problem. Our ancestors came here with next to nothing, and made their way by themselves (yes, poor Indians)!!! :( Now, we just welcome anyone and spread the wealth...oops...except for the super-wealthy and politicians, who are too good to accept the same health care we have shoved down our throats.

Let us know your arrival time Anne, we'll put the coffee on.

Yeah, we have all that goody freebie stuff, not food stamps though, cold hard cash will have to do.

Unfortunately we don't get enough immigrants who want to adept to our better standards of living by contributing and too many who simply want to take advantage of it while they do their damnedest to drag it down into what they 'fled' from.

Somehow I'm afraid I draw a hard line between pioneering immigrants and economic opportunistic refugees who use war as an excuse to get a free pass. The ones who really do qualify as refugees can't afford the boat fare.
Big difference between them in my view, but that seems to be overlooked by the bleeding hearts.

But all in all, that's about the only thing I'm really unhappy about, the rest is pretty damned good. :)

I'm with ya Di, I've no problem helping people who are willing to contribute, but too many have gotten used to the freebies. It's not just the ones who come here from elsewhere either, it's just gotten too easy to use the loopholes to get whatever people think they need....and yet, so many can't get temporary help when they need it most.

And, seriously, I'd love to see Australia; have heard so much good about it...umm...except for some of the critters that live there. :help1:

Oh, don't worry 'bout the critters, most of us don't bite.

All that scary stuff is just to tease the tourists.

As long as you never stick fingers into holes, or under anything, and don't pick up the pretty little Blue Ringed Octupus you spot in the rockpool, or anything else really, and never swim in the ocean in the Tropics in Box Jelly and Irikanji season and avoid going more than knee deep in shark territory, (which is everywhere with enough water to form a wave,) always tread warily in long grass, and don't dive into rivers with crocodile pictures on signs posted along them and you should be just fyiiiiine.
:shark::rofl:

The above advice is real btw, .... but the Drop Bears are a joke.

Cobblers. Immigrants want the same as everyone else - a chance for their kids and a chance for prosperity.

Cobblers yourself. Even Pollyanna can't be deluded enough to believe that they are all the same. Most are arriving with no family at all, just fit young solitary men. Prosperity obviously, but their kids? What kids?

I mentioned that line of difference when it comes to immigrants, I suggest you look for it.

Pollyanna knows all too well that humans aren't all the same, nor are they all saints. None of us are.
However, I reckon the proportion of immigrants who think a life on welfare is a good life is about the same as in the native born population. It's not a very large proportion.

Are you aware that approximately 50% of Australians were born overseas?
I wasn't, by the way.
