question :... if these stores are built quite a way from suburbia.. wouldn't it be false economy to drive there to fill up at one of the 120 gas pumps... ?

We will never go to one again. Stopped at the same store twice on a FL trip pulling a camper. Both times had to make a couple laps to find a fuel pump pulling a camper, DW took forever to get in and out the store, while I did a few more laps to find a spot to Park. And to top it off, our MPG DROPPED 10% after both refills on their cheap gas... Ive never been in the store itself.

I have stopped at a Buck-ees a few times. I like the one off of of I-95 in Daytona. Overall, they are pretty nice with almost everything in it for the traveler. The food is only so-so at best. I had the hot rib sandwich and the all beef hot dog.

The one I stop at the most has 120 gas pumps and if you stop there in the afternoon, it's very likely all the pumps will be busy. They also have EV Chargers. Prices are reasonable compared to the truck stops along the way.

You can grab what you want and be on your way in just minutes. They have plenty of checkout registers. Hardly any waiting in line. The bathrooms have no waiting with plenty of toilets and urinals.
I stop at the same one. I like the fact that I can get about anything I want in just minutes and be gone.

I’ve been to one in Texas. It was certainly an experience. I was most impressed with the bathrooms- huge! and spotlessly clean. Also had the Beaver Nuggets. Good and somewhat addictive.

Buck-ees is much larger with a lot more variety of items, including souvenirs and over 100 gas pumps. If I didn't know better, I would think their goal is to run all the smaller gas stations and mom and pop places out of business. Their bathrooms alone are larger than the store in this picture.

I didn't care for the Brisket.

They have plans to build at least 2 more in Florida. One will be in Ocala and the other will be in Port St. Lucie according to permits they have filed with the state. Ocala, of course, is where the “The Villages” are located along I-75, which has hundreds if not thousands of homes.

I spoke to a Florida Highway Trooper, who I thought was a really nice man. I spoke with him before I showed him my badge, so my impression of him being a really decent person was real. I was talking to him about I-4. If you know anything about I-4, you know it’s probably the most hated highway in Florida. He told me that most Troopers try to avoid patrolling I-4 because of the backups around Disney and Orlando. The state is building express lanes through that area, but it will cost you to use them. They don’t even do speed checks on I-4.

If there is going to be any road rage, I would guess that there’s plenty in that area. When I go though there, I see a lot of vehicles swapping lanes. It’s a 3 or 4 lane highway, and it kind of reminds me of a circus event. I have to laugh at some of the drivers. They are in one lane and then they jump over a lane and then another lane and then they jump back to where they started. It’s entertaining if nothing else. It does help pass the time. My wife will ask me what am I laughing at. I tell her to watch how people drive.

To put the size into perspective, The largest shop in the UK by floor space is Tesco Extra in Walkden, with 185,500 sq ft.
One of the biggest growing industries in our country is the home delivery. The internet has changed shopping habits, so many now buy much of there purchases on-line.
Same here, especially for we older folks who don't get around as well as in past years.
