Worst Xmas present you ever gave?

My ex had two cats, and she was absolutely freaked out about cat odor. She had those plug in things all over the house. And ever time I walked in, it was like getting grilled by the cops. "Do you smell anything? Do you smell an odor?" We both agree not to spend much and Xmas gifts had to be useful and needed. No more spending on needless stuff. Stupidly, I did what we agreed on. I figured since she was so crazy about cat odor, I'd get her one of those air purification machines.
I can't tell you the look on her face when she unwrapped it. UGH!!!! UGH!!!
I worked with her best friend. When I walked into work, she was laughing hysterically. She kept pointing at me, and saying "you got her a what? WHAHHAHAHAHA."

So what present did you bomb out with?

Fuzzybuddy, I don't think that was such a terrible idea, it was practical anyway. Just curious, was it helpful? I don't know if I ever bombed, sure I have. I can't say I've ever received anything like that either--maybe something not my taste but I still use or put it out where it can be seen.

In my case I would have to say a couple of re gifted items still haunt me a little.

Nice enough presents, I just didn't put as much thought or effort into them as the recipient deserved.

I think the air purifier was a great idea -- just not for Christmas.

I don't think I ever bombed with a present. Have to think about it some more.

I put a lot of thought into gifts but I think my one of my granddaughters disappointed in the traditional East-Indian robe I gave her one year....the year she was studying Japanese culture.

Every year we kids gave my grandfather a giant bottle of Old Spice for Christmas. He would exclaim that it was EXACTLY what he wanted and had been hoping for. He would immediately take it upstairs, take the old, dusty bottle off the shelf and replace it with the new one. He'd say it was the most handsome bottle he'd ever seen and we'd stand there just delighted with our good taste in picking presents.....

It wasn't until after he died that my grandmother let it slip that he detested the smell of Old Spice and had never opened one of the bottles.

Great story and an even better memory for you and your family!

A German pickle tree ornament.
I love German pickle ornaments!! In fact I plan to give one this year. The worst gift I gave wasn't totally my doing. When I was about seven a little friend of mine was coming over to my house to play during Christmas week.. My Mom completely forgot to get something for me to give her. I had received a scarf as one of my gifts and had already worn it once the day before. She told me she would replace the scarf and quickly ironed out the scarf and wrapped it. Not a minute to soon, the little girl arrived and we exchanged gifts. It was still hot from the iron when she opened it. She noticed it and mentioned it to me. My Mom who was standing by said she had put the box on the radiator a few hours before. Even though I was only about seven i think I turned red with embarrassment.

Boys and men love to give practical gifts to girls and women. I once gave my mother a nice garbage container as a teen...

Like I said my ex's face told me everything. I set up the air purifier. But after a day, it somehow got unplugged. Then one day, it ran away.
I think she got me shirts. I'm sorry, but anything that can be ironed is definitely NOT a good Xmas present.
