Would Tarzan Have Been As Popular Without Cheetah?

I have been watching and being totally entertained once again by the old Tarzan movies. Howled with laughter at Cheetah's antics and mischief.

Have to wonder though, if Cheetah had not been on the shows would they have been as popular then and even now?

I didn't realize how many men have played Tarzan the through the years......there's been a bunch of them.

Cheeta had talent but was no Tarzan!

When Johnny Weissmuller was a kid he was in both the 1924 and 1928 Olympics where he won several gold medals and a bronze medal.

I felt bad when Johnny Weissmuller ended his days as a greeter in Las Vegas.

Cheetah only had like 3 antics - the summersault, the toothy laugh, and the limp-wristed wave. Tarzan's list of antics was practically endless, and he could do them hairless.

Plus, he had the yell!

Jane had the yell too and so did Boy. I loved the scenes where they would all jump off a cliff one by one to go swimming and Cheetah would be above teasing the elephants with the bananas.

At the moment I am watching Tarzan and His Mate, one of the firsts 1934 and Jane wore some pretty risque outfits.

Except for Weissmuller, the top row look so wrong.
Mr. Weissmuller was wonderful, I remember the old movies on TV.

I didn't even remember Cheetah until now, so I guess Tarzan would have been just as popular, imo.
