Would The World Be Better Off If All Of One Faith?

What caused me to think about this was having had the "Jehovah Witness" visit my front door last week. I got to thinking about the Spanish Conquistadors and their efforts to convert the heathen, my own "Seventh Day Adventist" missionary grand parents and their efforts in Haiti, and of course the young "Mormon" missionaries with their zeal and fervor seeking converts.

What if one of these faiths had won the conversion battle and we were all of one faith. Despite the fact that Islam in the 9th Century was highly creative and innovative in math, astronomy and medicine, would we all be better off today with Islam, particularly Fundamental Islam? If we were all "Catholic" would that be the end of wars and poverty? I personally think it would be a disaster if the entire world was of one mind set. I suspect that creativity and innovation would go out the window for IMO the differences in our mind set is what has been responsible for the good things that are available to us. Those differences have caused us to "think outside the box".

An interesting question Lon. However it's hard to say if things would be better, or that there would be no wars. There still would of course, over oil, land, minerals etc.Neighbours go to war with each other over shared driveways and hedges that are too tall.
I think on balance that you are right, the different faiths have all brought something to the table. Now if we can all only tolerate each other's different religions, life would be so much better.

I can't imagine living without having Faith. I am probably in the minority on this one, but that's OK. I'll be alright.
It would have been better if my original post said one RELIGION instead of one FAITH. You can have faith without a particular religion.

Once there was only one 'religion' - Catholic - in the 'so called western' world - look how that turned out.

I never fault another for their beliefs but the whole idea of organized religion is to have control and derive income from it. I have a couple of personal experiences that put me off organized religion for life.

Without religion, how would each society control the masses; it's needed to some degree keep the peons in check while those at the top thumb their noses and say.. "Let them eat kale". I'm so kidding. maybe.

Maybe it's more clear to change faith to religion Lon. I would vote for no religion at all, like other's I'm put off over the years by organized religions, Catholic born and raised here, currently don't go to any church or follow any particular 'religion'. Many non-religious people are good people.

Thanks, I figured I throw in Kale since that's what this peon is having for dinner without the side order of religion though. :D

OOPS! Mom and my preacher uncle, fav uncle not less, both just reached out of their graves and smacked my head.

Being a devout hedonist I would suffer severely without my faith...
