Would You Be Interested In A Paranormal - Unusual Occurrences Category?

The only reason for my post (#8) is that I have seen many people’s lives become unstuck by those claiming to be psychics.

I would most certainly not discard paranormal experiences (I’ve had them myself from childhood) but I feel, it is definitely not a gift given to a few, anyone can tap into their psychic ability if they wish.

I have this so called “gift” …it runs in my Mother’s side of the family. To be able to read things and “see things” has saved me from danger (and family members) on several occasions and that is a great bonus when one travels as much as we do.

Just as an aside I have secretly done readings on several people right here on SF. They will never know and sometimes I wonder if I should reveal to these people what I discovered, however, when I feel like doing do, I suffocate the thought.

As for discussing my own experiences, that I will not do. You see, I believe they are too precious to be debated.

Anyway it might be fun reading what others have to say.
Responding mostly to what's bold.

Totally agree, not only the phonies but some who have a 'gift' but misuse it--can do great harm to other.

For me it has also been a lifelong and pervasive part of my life. When i learned to meditate all my PSI senses got enhanced. At first a little intimidating, but then i learned what aspects i could control and what i couldn't and learned how to use what i knew about both my brain and my spirit to cope with the difficult aspect of it.

While i often form opinions about individuals online, i would not consider in anyway 'reading' them unless they asked and even then might not do it. i won't even 'pray'/send 'healing' without specific request from the subject. The closest i've come to doing something 'unknown' to subject is to visualize someone with whom i'd been having contentious interactions surrounded by white light. I attach no goal to the exercise, leaving that to Divine Consciousness.
Two most common outcomes:
1) Our interactions become less adversarial. Full disclosure, my method involves first filling/surrounding myself with white light, which likely has the effect of making me feeling less 'attacked' by hurtful things they say/do as well the light is surround them with helping them feel the need to hurtful less often/strongly.
2) They avoid me as much as possible considering how we know each other.

BTW, have never done this with someone i met on line because it's not really necessary the nature of cyberspace is enough of buffer against people i don't care to deal with. If a cyber friend asks for 'prayers' or good vibes i will send them--but i generally leave the details of how they are helped/healed to 'God'/Divine Consciousness/the Universe. One time i did a 'remote comforting' (as opposed to healing) of a cyberfriend who was in crisis. Turned out to be a very interesting experience.

We each have to do what is best for ourselves. Me, i talk about my experiences in part because i know there are so many people who are ashamed or even afraid of what they've experienced 'paranormally', thanks to both organized religions and 'science minded' folks passing judgements and attaching unflattering labels to experiencers. My talking about them when people have often been exposed to my expositions about various science matters and applying logic/reason to various human problems, might help those people accept themselves more.

i have battled depression most of my life, and while my empathic abilities have at times been a factor in the depression they have also helped me move toward my spiritual goals, so i would not trade them for an 'easier' life.

i've had an NDE myself, over half my life ago. i'm going to go check yours out. We don't all experience it exactly the same way.
Edit:
Could you tell me what you titled the Diary post with the NDE Experience. i looked thru 2 pages of them and only found the 'Strange Dream' one.
"Strange Dream" is the one

Like you I've experienced my gift since childhood but it got much stronger after the birth of my son. I'm pleasantly surprised that you are "one of us". :) I have never told anyone, except my mother (who was not my birthmother) anything bad. But I have given the information I've gleaned during my psychometry readings, as I saw and felt them. It was up to each individual to interpret what I saw. Each one always got back to me about their outcomes and my accuracy (which I'd say was about 85% of the time).

@feywon You and definitely approached psychometry differently. But you had the opportunity to do so due to the environment in which your readings took place. I just followed the process I learned the night I discovered I had the ability to do psychometry during an exercise in the weekly metaphysical course I attended for 8 weeks at an adult night school offering. We held objects from other participants who we did not know prior to the class, so I've always done it with usually rings or earrings from my subjects. One element of my readings was actually remote viewing during which I accurately depicted places in their not too distant pasts and not too distant futures. Each session always started with me doing meditative breathing like we were taught, which elicited visions and even words to interpret I stopped doing readings after I accepted Islam.

I'd love to see such a category where we can discuss paranormal things (or what @feywon and I consider normal for us). This is a category in which we would be able to discuss:
~Precognition, psychometry, knowings and other psychic events
~Ghosts, angels, shadow people, etc.
~UFOs & USOs
~Weird dreams that represent symbolism of real life events
~Mythical creatures, urban legends and their origins
~Near death experiences (NDEs) and life after death
~And stuff that happened to you which you just can't explain logically.

If enough people are interested, I'll ask Matrix to start the category.
@OneEyedDiva , sounds vastly interesting! IMO science and "paranormal" occurrences are not mutually exclusive by any means. Back in the '70s when I first majored in psychology I had a friend who had taken his B.A. degree in psychology at UCLA, he told of the parapsychology studies there. Sadly that research project was discontinued in 1978.

Glad we're on the same page regarding psychics.

I don't know exactly what you mean by "one of us". To be quite honest, we (humans) can all fall into that category and I keep saying this, but we all have this "gift"... some at birth, some develop later in life and others can tap into it.
There is no special group...I really have to stress that!

For decades, I have utilised this ability in my work (not as a psychic), but in the corporate world as a guiding tool. I still do with the freelance work I am involved in. I really do not make a song and dance about this, it is not my way to do so,

I differ somewhat from you and Feywon because, although, I have used psychometric testing in my work, I am rather dubious about psychometry (paranormal).

As far as I am aware, there is no scientific evidence that psychometry (paranormal) exists. But here again, I keep an open mind.

After having read these previous posts, it sounds like a good addition for many who are interested. I have also had quite a few experiences in my life. These events have made me aware there is much more going on around us than only what we see. I feel blessed to have this extra sensory gift as part of my life.

Good news! @Matrix has established the category for us. He is so awesome that he scouted out some related threads from the past and has already added them! Thank you to respondents who replied that it's a good, interesting idea which is needed here on the forum and thank you once again Matrix ❣️ Here is the link: https://www.seniorforums.com/forums/paranormal-strange-occurrences.74/

"One of us" was tongue in cheek Jamala. I believe we as humans do have these gifts but many choose either to not use them, not acknowledge them and are even frightened by them. Some feel they can tap into it, others don't think they can or don't want to. It's good that your gifts have served you well in corporate life and life in general.

I will share my psychometry readings in the new category. Some I posted already so I'll revive those posts. It's "funny" that those of us who have our particular gifts can be dubious about other aspects of the paranormal. There are areas I'm dubious about too. Like you...I don't make a big deal about my abilities...they are as much a part of me as my body parts, which I don't go around calling attention to. I agree with much of what you and @feywon discussed.

It's too bad that fake psychics scam people and cause so many to doubt that real psychics exist.

"One of us" was tongue in cheek

Whew! That’s a relief since I don’t like labels!
Looking forward to all of the interesting conversations.
