Would You Buy a Grave Stone For Someone Who Died Over 50 Years Ago?

My older sister informed me that she bought a small grave stone for our grandmother (mother's side) who died in October of 1957. I have always thought that our grandfather should have been the one who bought it back in 1957. Of course he was more interested in his sister-in-law. She didn't ask me to help pay for it, but I think she was hoping that I would.

I told her that Gram has been dead for 67 years. My view is that I don't want to waste money on something from the far distant past. I want to save my money for something in the future or near future. You never know what lies ahead. That's what I want to use my money for.

Would you buy a gravestone for a family member that died over 50 years ago? If you are rich, then of course. But if you are not.....
If she is trying to right a wrong, why not? It’s her money. The small ones are not that expensive. Setting them is another bill, but the small stones don’t cost that much if you buy them at the less expensive sites online.

I think women from history have gotten badly overlooked for centuries, so it’s kind of nice to hear of a WOMAN getting acknowledged for living. Did she also raise kids who did not turn out to be serial killers? Good work!

People are spending $125 on gym shoes every 6 months. That’s just how much a decent pair of shoes cost now. If they are designer shoes, they are spending far more.

At least the grave marker will not have to be thrown out in 6 to 9 months.

I bought one at my own expense for my father's brother who passed away 6 years ago. I was the closest caring relative he had.
Wow! What a very loving, thoughtful thing to do.

My answer: it would depend on the person. I don’t have many relatives that I know about.

Only 4 people were at my uncle's funeral - me, a mutual friend, the pastor and the mortician. It was the smallest funeral I ever saw. None of my cousins on that side of the family attended. That's why I said I was the only "caring" relative.
