Would you eat a snake? Pythons might become a new menu item in Florida.

It's quite the delicacy......when you can get it

Actually, the first time I heard the yelping dogs, I thought a taxi had hit one
Turns out they were tenderizing the day's meals

The saying there was 'If you're going to be a dog, be a small cute one'
(guess they don't get eaten)

Guangdong was a happening province
My dad spent 1966 in Bangkok, Thailand on overseas duty for the USAF.

He said right after he got there, he and two or three other guys went to this bar to have some beers. There was a kid with a hibachi on a cart with skewered chunks of meat which he would cook for you at your table. My dad got one and as he started to eat it, the guys at his table started going "Woof woof woof!!!" Then they told him it was probably dog meat. He said he just shrugged his shoulders and finished eating it.

Acceptable human nourishment varies from culture to culture. Don't expect to eat a beef steak in a home in India or a pork chop with an Orthodox Jewish family. No doubt there is a culture somewhere that considers python delicious. It's all in the preparation.

I hope the Everglades management project goes well. Small wildlife does not stand a chance unless they are eradicated or at least controlled.

When my mom would take me with her to visit her Haredi friends in Kiryas Joel I would see freezers full of pork and other non kosher meat in their basements. When AMTRAK ran their Empire Service trains out of Grand Central Terminal an Indian terminal service operator would have the well known cheeseburgers at the infamous yuppie hangout Jackson Hole on East 64th Street. Breaking rules is fine by me just as long as they don't try to force their cultural beliefs on others I always say. Excellent post by the way. Merry Xmas.

I have such an incredible phobia of snakes that the thought of eating one makes me feel light-headed and shaky. So, NO, no snake for me...

Thank you and a Merry Xmas to you and yours as well.

No ...not knowingly anyway. A local diner which was frequented after the clubs closed at 3:00 a.m. used to serve frogs legs. I wanted to try them but never summoned the nerve. I did hear from others that they tasted like chicken.

I think I was fifteen years old, helping my uncle in San Antonio haul some material in his truck, when he said it time for lunch
and we went into this crowded corner cafe. They had rattlesnake sandwiches on the menu and my uncle ordered two sandwiches.
I took one bite and ate it, took another bite and rushed outside to the curb and spit it out. My uncle said it taste like chicken. I didn't
know. Two bites was all I could handle; my imagination was running wild. It took me a couple pf days to get overt that episode.

Yet I know at these big rattlesnake roundups where you can go and hunt them the dday before, such as Sweetwater, Texas, they
handle them, cook and serve meals with rattl;esnake meat and sell most of the snakes or what's was left of them.

Be afraid....be very afraid
A new study suggests snakes may be the source of the new coronavirus causing an outbreak in China
LOL. Yeah...when they don't know what causes something, just find something or someone to blame. And, don't we all know how evil snakes are? The bible says so......doesn't it?

With Hantavirus, it was mice's fault - or mouse droppings.
With Swine Flu, it was pigs' fault. I still remember that "valuable" advice from doctors: "Stay away from live pigs." (I took that advice; I've never gone near Bill Cosby, Rev. Jim Bakker or Harvey Weinstein)
With Bird Flu, it was birds' fault
Yesterday, a TV ad said "Black people are being infected with Covid at twice the rate of other races. How long before ignorant people start saying "It's those Black people who are spreading Covid everywhere & making us sick."

Remember Hitchcock's "The Birds?" When a family was trying to escape the area, their young daughter who had 2 parakeets said, "Mommy, can we take my birds? They haven't hurt anyone." :giggle:
