Would You Lie in a Coffin to Relieve Stress?

I would not lie there in a coffin.
And if I did, it'd not be often.

I would not spend time in a casket.
I think I'd likely blow a gasket.

And I don't think it would be a lark,
for soaking in a tank so dark.

I like to do my soaks in tubs,
With bubbles, candles, oils and scrubs.

So keep your coffins and your tanks,
I'll take a pass on both, but thanks!

I like your poem jujube.

I suppose the coffin idea is the same as the flotation tanks, in that you are deprived of sensory input, which is soothing and stress busting. It does not need to be a real coffin of course, just a box like thing to climb in.I imagine you need to be very stressed out to use either. You could lie on the bed in a quiet room and close your eyes and think relaxing zen type things, a bit like yoga, it would do just as well.

Meanderer, we have much the same 'saying' here, 'it wasn't the cough that carried him off but the coffin they carried him off in'.

My first career was as a embalmer/funeral director for well over 1,200 funerals. Most caskets/coffins in the U.S. use shredded paper or exelsior as filler in the bottom covered with satin. The filler helps to position the body better for viewing. Not really very comfortable, but those that used it never seemed to complain.

I always remember the scene in "The Loved One" where the funeral director (I think he was played by Liberace, but I could be wrong) asks a young man who is making arrangements for his uncle's funeral, "Do you want the silk lining or the rayon lining?" "What's the difference?" asks the young man. "Well, personally, "replies the funeral director, "silk....chafes."
