Would You Like Your Receipt?

When we had our business we’d claim all receipts but since we don’t have it any more, we don’t. Then again if we purchase clothes or something we might want to return , we do.

Correction: my husband says we keep all receipts except the $ store ;they don’t offer any exchanges on any items or money back.

“It depends” is also my answer for this thread.

99 times out of 100, I won’t need that receipt, but it turns out it came in handy when I bought horse feed at Tractor Supply this past Monday.

It turned out one bag of horse feed was overfilled with oil, which ended up on the garage floor. The other two also have mild drips. Thank goodness I had left the 150# (3 bags) in the garage when I brought them home because I was too tired to lug them into the spare bedroom.

The feed company responded to my email within 24 hours. Seems they had had an “overage of oil issue” in one lot, as they had received other complaints. Feed companies do add more vegetable oil to their non-pelleted winter mixes for digestion, but the one bag was “have a little beet pulp with your vegetable oil”🤯🤯

She needed a photo of the bag’s tag with the lot number and a copy of my receipt if I still had it, although the receipt was not an absolute.

She graciously told me I don’t have to struggle putting the bags back In the car for return. She would mail me a complete refund ($99) AND some additional coo-puns for my trouble.

So yes, when it comes to purchases from Tractor Supply, I do keep my receipts for a time. Kroger, not so much🤠🤠

I avoid taking paper receipts whenever I can (I wish the grocery self-checkout would have an email receipt option, I find paper receipts useful if I use regular checkout because I get silly suspicions that they rang up the items more than once, grocery totals instill a sense of disbelief in me "How?? How did it add up to that?!?" -- sometimes I even add the amounts up myself not trusting their computer could add correctly!).

I get immediate notifications from my credit cards (I have my notifications set to anything above $10) so I know right away the transaction amount charged is the amount I expected.

The receipts I hate the most are the ones that have several pages of info I'm just going to throw away, such as from getting car maintenance or the vet (tho thank goodness the vet has an email receipt option now. I wish the car dealership would).

I get frustrated at the gas pump. The screen asks "do you want a receipt?" and the pump either doesn't print it or the screen says, "See cashier for receipt."

I'd say I get a receipt only 1 time out of three or four.

Unless I have to go into the store for something, I don't get my receipt. I wonder how many people do. If you go to the cashier for the receipt, 9 chances out of 10, you'll have to wait in line behind several people. I'm either too impatient or I'm on my way going somewhere and don't have time to wait. In all fairness, most of these convenient store clerks are short staffed and probably hadn't had the time to replace the receipt papers.

The receipt is given at the gas pump, if you pay by card.
We pay for groceries, etc. by card, so, of course we keep the receipts.

I think jujube (and I might be mistaken) is talking about when the machine asks if you want a receipt and if you do, you need to see the cashier because the machine is out of paper. If there's paper in the machine, I take it, look at it, then throw it away so the next person behind me doesn't get my receipt.

99 44/100 % of the time...YES! I want it. The Mrs wants to see it, and sometimes I may need to make a return or exchange.
In my case it’s the Mr who wants the receipts for everything we buy jointly. He has an extensive spreadsheet.

My individual receipt tracking isn’t as thorough. Last night I went through a bunch and wasn’t impressed with some of my spending. Time to crack down upon myself.
