Would You Like Your Receipt?

I pay cash for everything except internet purchases, of course. Like most, it depends on what it is. Groceries? No, except WalMart always gives me one and like @MACKTEXAS said, it's good to have if you are questioned on your way out. I throw it out when I get home. Always keep the receipts from hardware/lumber/house supplies. They have their own binder.

I was once at the seashore, on the boardwalk, with a woman I was dating at that time. We went into a shop and she bought a shirt. But she got a receipt and that's when she noticed a huge overcharge. It was something like $200. Who knows if the person ringing it up made an honest mistake or intentionally hoped we would leave and discover it long after returning home.
But because of the receipt, we got a refund for the difference.
Always get a printed receipt it can't hurt.

I've trained the cashiers at the store I work at to always give the receipt to the customer. If the customer doesn't want it, they will hand it back and say, "Please throw it away, it's not needed."

I always take my receipt. One reason is because I record everything I spend on my self tallying Family Budget Planner spreadsheet (by Vertex). And what if I have to return something...I'd need the receipt. A couple of my doctors and a couple of stores now offer the option of emailing the receipts, which I accept sometimes.

A glum looking young woman on a checkout at Lidl scanned all my stuff and said wearily, "Would you like a receipt.?"

I pushed a humbug sweet in her hand and smiling, I said, "Yes please, and gizza kiss."

She lost that glum look, and now smiling called me a cheeky b*gger. 😊

I get frustrated at the gas pump. The screen asks "do you want a receipt?" and the pump either doesn't print it or the screen says, "See cashier for receipt."

I'd say I get a receipt only 1 time out of three or four.
That almost never happens to me EXCEPT at the gas station nearest me. It irritates me as well.

me - it depends

things I buy for clubs I am in and need a reciept - yes. Things I might return if needed - yes

little things at shops, a few groceries etc - no.

Sometimes we can brighten an otherwise bad day for a person simply by saying something nice to them (like a compliment) or making them laugh.

Since I can be a bit OCD, I used to take every paper receipt and compare it against my credit card statement at the end of the cycle. Hubs said I was wasting time because if I made a purchase I would recognize it. He was right. These days I receive receipts via email for major purchases like car repairs, new tires, house repairs, theater tickets, pet boarding, etc. so I can refer back to them. For purchases on Amazon, I just keep them in a folder in email and compare them against my credit card charges.

I do always take paper receipts for merchandise I've purchased, then throw them out after I leave the store unless something might need to be returned.

It’s surprising when a receipt might come in handy. There was a recall on a sunscreen. This was after 4 or 5 months. DH keeps every receipt for a year. He pulled it out. Although I only bought one, on sale, I was given the full price back on the maximum of two.

Unless I have to go into the store for something, I don't get my receipt. I wonder how many people do. If you go to the cashier for the receipt, 9 chances out of 10, you'll have to wait in line behind several people. I'm either too impatient or I'm on my way going somewhere and don't have time to wait. In all fairness, most of these convenient store clerks are short staffed and probably hadn't had the time to replace the receipt papers.
In all my gas transactions, I have never been able to get a paper receipt. It is ALWAYS outta paper. Go into the store and wait and wait. Sounds like a set up so you go into the store and purchase another item while you are bored and waiting.

Seems like a logical conclusion.

Have you considered taking a photo with your cellphone. It’ll be date and time stamped. I hate having to go into the gas station.

The thing is that receipts are unused, create waste paper and paper litter. Costs stores profit, especially CVS with
their long receipts. No receipt then they won't take it back...stores don't like returns.
Even public libraries near me ask if I want receipts, the date due slip. Seems they don't care when items are
returned, or even if. They should give receipts to everyone automatically to encourage returns.

When offered, I always take the option for it to be texted or emailed to me, especially if it an expensive item that I might need to return. I am notorious for misplacing physical copies of receipts. I'll do the same at the self checkout too.
