Would You Spend $13,000 For Life Saving Surgery For Your Pet?

Coincidental that this thread came up because we took Bugsy in today for his annual shots. The vet told because he is 8 y/o and a considered a "senior" we should have blood panels and x-rays done as well. We said "whatever it takes to keep him healthy". The total was $420, so I figured it was less than an airline flight for a companion that adds so much my life every day.

It really depends on the age of the pet and prognosis. In 2019 I bought my first puppy and she was 2 months old. 2 weeks later I find out that the valve to her heart didn’t close and if she didn’t have heart surgery soon she would be dead by 1.

The surgery cost 4K and I did it because her entire life was ahead of her and the prognosis was good. Mandy was an excellent buddy and lived to 15 with no other issues. People thought we were crazy and said to just get another dog.
You say you bought your puppy in 2019 that would make her 4 now, I am confused?

I would. 2 years ago, my cat began having seizures. I took him to a veterinary neurologist and the workup including an MRI cost me $6,000.
It turned out that he has epilepsy. I give him phenobarbital twice daily and it has controlled the seizures very well. The vet said he will probably have a normal lifespan. i’m so thankful that he didn’t have a brain tumor.

It would depend on the pet's age and condition and whether the outcome was worth putting it through surgery and whether I could afford the cost.
