Would you use a corn cob instead of toilet paper?

In earlier times, people in rural America would supposedly tear pages from the Sears catalogue rather than use toilet paper in their outhouses. That wouldn't work now as Sears has essentially gone out of business!
Earlier Times! Oh yes, I have used a lot of Sears Pages along with pages from Montgomery Ward, newspapers, and old telephone books. Since our outhouse was located some distance from our house in Northern Idaho, I learned (as a child) to hold off until the right moment so that I wouldn't be out in the cold for too long. (Always allowing time to shed all those layers of clothing needed at those temperatures.)
Of yes, that was living LOL. Finally we moved into town and had an indoor bathroom.

I can relate, having grown up in rural Alberta .. and not having indoor plumbing until I was around 8 yrs. old.

I think it depends on the situation. If lost or stranded out in the wilderness - if there was no other option than corn cobs, I guess I would use them. It's not a matter of using them rather than TP.

As of today I have 8 rolls of TP. Since it's only me, that should last a while. I've never used a lot of it, just a few squares each time, but now I even use a toilet stool and the cleaning for #2 is minimal.

I've heard that people in the middle east use the fingers of the left hand to clean and wash themselves with water ''down there''. Never the right hand, as that is used for eating. That's another possibility, if they can do it, so can we. (I rather not, but that's beside the point).
And thats the reason they shake hands with the right one only!

Why would I use corn cob when there's a perfectly-good shower right next to the head?
In fact, sometimes I do that anyway.......

aaaand….you can smoke it (good for curing a cough, they say)

I rolled one
lit up
created a cough

Gary, I grew that for a while, and then it died. It is VERY SOFT, feels like velvet.

My father had tales of corncobs
Lived way down in the rural when I was 11-14 know all about sears catalogues, The paper was too slick, the magazines that used a poorer quality of paper were the choice of the day.

Goggled middle eastern 'toilet paper' does include fingers.
However, the info is yes and no-ambiguous.

The Bedouin tribes have lived an austere lifestyle for a long time, there is no toilet paper or catalogues , nor corn cobs in the desert;
different cultures have different values, mores...It is not that big a deal.
