Would you use a fanny pack?

My children feel comfortable teasing me a bit. When we retired and started to travel more I found it convenient to carry some of the items needed at a moments notice in a fanny pack (for lack of a better description). I went out of my way purchase one good quality with adequate security since we find ourselves in crowded places when traveling.

My kids at first told me that this was old fashioned and only popular in bygone days. They had some clever lines that we all enjoyed a healthy laugh about. Still I persisted, and more recently I see more of my fellow travelers using these devices (both male and female). At first it was only travelers or those jogging and biking. Now I am seeing more persons when go to lunch or on tours following my example. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? DO YOU OR WOULD YOU USE A FANNY PACK? AM I THE WIERDO IN THE GROUP?

I’m not sure what I would have to put in a fanny pack.

When I’m traveling, I don’t like having anything to keep track of or draw attention to me.

If you carry enough items that you need it, go for it. I have a cell phone holder on the side, with a strap the belt goes through which makes it impossible to slip loose. My wallet in my back pocket, keys in the front pocket, change and a mint holder in the right. That's all I need. One of the few things I like about winter is that some of those items can go into my jacket pockets.

Depending on what I'm doing, I will use a fanny pack. I have several different sizes to fit my needs & I love them. They work out well when I know I'll be in crowds because they snap in the front where it makes it difficult for someone else to undo. My hands are free & they don't get in the way like a purse. I also like it because it takes the weight off of my shoulders like a purse would place.

The main one I use is big enough to hold my wallet, calendar, phone, pencil & advil.

I used one back in the days when I "race walked" at various tracks and parks. I did not want to carry my purse. I wore it on my waist and it was useful. I don't need one now though as I can barely walk. Now that you mentioned it, I wish I had kept it. It was pink and blue and pretty cute. I could still use it with my walker.

When we travel or go on a tour that requires a lot of walking I push my wife in a foldable transport chair. I always seem to need to deal with cash, tickets, tokens, the fob for our car or other miscellanous items. When boarding a plane there is the need for both of our ID's, cell phones and chargers, just to name a few items. Dealing with a chair for my wife we try not to have bulky carry on items just the necessities. On planes I pay for the first class seating that allows us comfort and easy access going on or off the plane. So their is a bit of method in my wierd madness.

I hate carrying bags, so I was like: hey what a great idea. I wore one to work and you can also turn it into a thin backpack. Awesome. So practical. Not an irritating bag on your shoulder, you can't forget it cause you laid it somewhere in the train. You just keep it on. Fabulous. Nobody steals it.
Why not? Because my colleagues couldn't contain themselves anymore lol. Weird Al had one.

Had a nice leather one back in the day and often used it.
As years passed, it fell into disuse and I tossed it a good while ago.
This discussion makes me wish I'd hung onto it for the rare need to use one.

I'm pretty sure fanny packs are making a comeback of late. I see a number of people wearing them these days. I recall them as being quite practical back in the day. Also, one of the few upsides to aging is that the older I get the less I care about what people think of me.

We do in the UK as well, but that's because the word "fanny" has a different meaning in the UK to what it means in the US, and although there's only a couple of inches between them, it makes all the difference in the world!

Yes, I use a bum bag. It's more secure than a handbag and safer when you're out rambling, climbing over stiles etc.

Down here in the south a license is no longer required to carry a concealed weapon. In fact, most of the southern states allow open carry without a permit as well. Fortunately, I don't often see people carrying weapons openly or it would be like the old wild west we see in the movies. It's a sad state of affairs when our country is becoming so unsafe that people feel the need to walk around armed with a handgun.
