Wouldn't it be wonderful...

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
...if we did the things we now want to do when we were young enough to do it? Now, do partly to bad luck and partly bad planning some of those things are out of reach for either physical or financial reasons. What would you have done then that is no longer possible?

I'm going to watch this thread closely because whatever you folks wished you'd done when you were younger may still be possible for us Junior seniors...so it might give me some food for thought.

What do you wish you'd done Jim?

Well to start with, not get married on my 21st birthday, taken some trips to Europe and did a better job of thinking of my eventual retirement financial situation. I was 36 before I knew the kind of lady I should have married to begin with and I am still with her. Save safely, save safely, save safely.......

Can't think of a one-time *physical* type thing that I couldn't do now that I *want* to do. So it would have to be something that
you best learn when you're young and requires a lot of practice.

I'd like to learn Spanish, well enough to *think* in Spanish.

Always wanted to learn to play a guitar and to play tennis. Gave up guitar because I could never build up calluses on finger tips. Ouch!
Now I think my fingers are not flexible enough, although there is a Fender Stratocaster sitting in the corner of the room right now.
(My excuse is that the strings need replaced, badly ;))

I'm Lucky I guess. I have always done and still do, what ever it is that I want to do. I was always able to accomplish the goals that I set out to achieve.

Lon, how? If it is not too presumptuous to ask, that is.

It's not presumptuous at all, but I don't know if I have a good answer, other than to say that I have through out my life been a RESULTS ORIENTED INDIVIDUAL and been blessed with a positive and optimistic attitude despite initial & temporary failings at certain things.

I wish I had kept up with Spanish but there is no reason I can't do it now except laziness and procrastination. The closest town to me was 98% Spanish speaking a few years ago so I imagine it still is close to that. I took a couple weeks of Spanish in high school and then switched to Girl's Glee. Though out the years I've purchased CDs to learn Spanish but I've found out those don't work unless you make the effort to actually listen to them and practice the language.

I just thought of one. I wish I had went to nursing school when I was young. I wanted to be an RN. There is no way I could manage to make it through a nursing program now. Physically or mentally.

I really can't say that there is much that I haven't accomplished or done. I suppose I would have liked to learn to play an instrument, and at my age I doubt I will find the time to learn. But we're still physically active, we've traveled where we wanted, I like to think we have and still do make a difference in our community. Our marriage has been rock solid all these years, and we're living where we want and how we want.

There are many things I would have done differently, but there isn't anything I physically or financially could have done when I was younger that I can't do now. However, I'm sorry I didn't learn a language (French) when I was younger as I'm finding it very hard to learn and remember it now.

Ride the best roller coasters in the world. I've ridden the best ones in the United States but I WANT THE WORLD!!! My grandmother rode coasters with me into her 60's and I rode them until this year with *my* granddaughter. I'm afraid my great-grandchildren are on their own.
