This is way too funny! My DD despises Elf; I love Elf. I went looking for him last year and DD insisted he was "lost". but I know better. She either hid him or trashed him. Heartless! His name is Dudley. I have visions of poor Dudley either homeless or buried in the county landfill

It wasn’t around when my kids were growing up, and I wouldn’t have gotten one if there were. I think it’s a bad idea to even suggest in fun that a felt & wire “thing” is watching them.Some kids are overly suggestible. Some religions teach that God is everywhere & watching but I think that’s a whole other thing. Benevolent.

The elf on the shelf always makes me think of this guy from the 60s/70s.

We had a couple of them that always appeared somewhere around the house during the holidays.
